According to this, state senator John Cullerton in Illinois is about to introduce an "assault weapons" ban during the legislature's lame-duck session. In fact, by the time you read this, it's possible it will have already been introduced. It could even be on the Governor's desk for signature by Friday.
And apparently, firearms that would be banned include ALL semiautomatic rifles, pistols and shotguns. No exceptions. No grandfathering. Plus, owners who hold more than 10 rounds of ammo would have to register that ammo with the state police.
You guys, I hope this passes, and the governor signs it. Because if there's any place in the country that would be the perfect test case for what ordinary citizens will do when they're faced with having their guns confiscated, it's the state that already has some of the strictest gun laws around, and yet is home to Chicago, a city that had in excess of 500 murders in 2012. I want to see if the people of Illinois who have Actual Brains, even though they were outnumbered by idiotic Obama voters in November, will stand up and fight against this potential gun grab.
Because if Illinois folks fight back, then perhaps there is hope for the country after all.
Then again, if they turn in their weapons, or resign to play by the government rules in this case, then someone will need talk me down from the ledge, you guys. This is just insanity.
