As Mock Would Say, This “Gives Me The Glees…”

I’m Southern/Midwestern mutt. Born up here in corn country, I spent my formative years in the south, so I’ll always have a little Julia Sugarbaker lurking within the depths of my soul (well, a Republican/Libertarian version of her, that is). That big-haired essence never leaves a chick.

I remember the south being VERY Democrat-heavy. It’s just a thing down there. Well, it WAS, anyway. I read this article this morning, and it seems that the November 2nd midterm elections put a bit of a nail in the coffin to that Democrat heaviness down there. In fact, there’s been a bit of a revolution, it seems.

In Alabama, four Democrats announced last week they were joining the GOP, giving Republicans a supermajority in the House that allows them to pass legislation without any support from the other party. The party switch of a Democratic lawmaker from New Orleans handed control of Louisiana’s House to Republicans for the first time since Reconstruction.

Most of the party swaps are in the South, where GOP rule is becoming more entrenched and Democrats—many of them already more conservative than their counterparts elsewhere—are facing what looks like a long exile in the minority.

Ouch.

Now, I hope that these changey-folks are changing for the RIGHT reasons – and not merely to win under a shiny, new GOP label. If they’re NOT doing it for the right reasons (and I mean “RIGHT” in every way), then we need to sniff them out and vote them out. I’m just sayin.

But I do find the whole thing amusing, to say the least. And it’s nice to see my southern home getting on board with some of that good old fashioned COMMON SENSE.

As we’d say down there….Ooooh Democrats. Sucks for ya’ll….
