Remember the days when you could watch the evening news, or eat fast food, or buy a pair of JEANS without getting a political lecture screamed in your face?
Those were the days.
Well, in the latest case of “companies that just can’t stay out of the political fray” Levi Strauss & Co. is now partnering with gun control groups.
Because of COURSE they are.
Remember when they just made jeans?
According to the Hill:
Levi Strauss’s CEO and President Chip Bergh wrote in Fortune on Tuesday that the company “simply cannot stand by silently when it comes to issues that threaten the very fabric of the communities where we live and work.”
“You may wonder why a company that doesn’t manufacture or sell guns is wading into this issue, but for us, it’s simple,” Bergh wrote. “Americans shouldn’t have to live in fear of gun violence. It’s an issue that affects all of us — all generations and all walks of life.”
Yeaaah. That still doesn’t answer the question. Why IS a company that doesn’t manufacture or sell guns “wading into this issue?” Obviously the CEO has a problem with guns himself… why did he have to involve the whole company?
Can’t HE just take a stand… and let the jean company make jeans?
Bergh said it was his responsibility to speak up for important issues since he leads a “values-driven company that’s known the world over as a pioneer of the American West and one of the great symbols of American freedom.”
And when I think of American freedom, I think of GUN CONTROL.
JUST KIDDING.
Also… I’m ALL about gun safety. Every responsible gun owner is. In fact, the NRA promotes and advocates for RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERSHIP every day.
But Levi isn’t partnering with the NRA… they’re partnering with EVERYTOWN…the gun-grabbing group that wilfully promotes entirely debunked statistics to promote FEAR of guns.
Levi’s, therefore, announced a new three-tiered initiative to support gun violence prevention.
The company will donate more than $1 million over the next four years to nonprofits and youth activists that work to end gun violence, establishing the “Safer Tomorrow Fund.”
The blue jean manufacturer also partnered with gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety and other executives to form Everytown Business Leaders for Gun Safety.
Lovely.
Bergh called the group a coalition of business leaders who “believe, as we do, that business has a critical role to play in and a moral obligation to do something about the gun violence epidemic in this country.”
So no, this isn’t about responsible ownership… that became ABUNDANTLY clear as SOON as Everytown got involved.
