Because Democratic lawmakers have nothing better to do, they’re introducing resolutions designed to condemn Trump for criticizing CNN. Yes, really. This is what we’re paying them to do. Ten Democratic senators co-sponsored the absurd measure.
“Punishing reporters for simply doing their job is a strongman tactic that cannot be tolerated in a free democracy. President Trump may not like tough questions, but that’s simply too bad,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal said in a statement.
“This resolution reaffirms our commitment to the First Amendment and calls on the President to respect our free press rather than demean and diminish it,” he continued.

The same day we introduce a resolution condemning the White House’s treatment of reporters, President Trump amplifies attacks on CNN’s @Acosta. This is unacceptable & intolerable.

They crafted this resolution after the White House prevented CNN’s Kaitlan Collins from attending ONE press event. And if you recall, she was prevented from attending the event because she pulled a Jim Acosta earlier in the day.
“At the conclusion of a press event in the Oval Office a reporter shouted questions and refused to leave despite repeatedly being asked to do so,” Sarah Sanders stated. “Subsequently, our staff informed her she was not welcome to participate in the next event, but made clear that any other journalist from her network could attend. She said it didn’t matter to her because she hadn’t planned to be there anyway. To be clear, we support a free press and ask that everyone be respectful of the presidency and guests at the White House.”
That CLEARLY wasn’t an attack on the press. Others from CNN were able to attend the event. Just not Collins. She had a time out for being obnoxious.
Back to the resolution. It apparently condemns Trump for calling MSM “fake news.” Yes, really.
The measure also serves as a formal show of support for reporters “to ask questions of powerful government officials,” and to “feel free to do their duty without fear of reprisal from the Government.”
Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Patty Murray (D-Wash.) Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Tom Udall (D-N.M.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Cory A. Booker (D-N.J.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.), and Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) co-sponsored the resolution.
This is what we’re paying them to do. They’re crafting useless resolutions that do nothing more than make Whiny Jim Acosta feel like a very special boy.
