UK Charity Apologizes, Re-releases Pride Month Video After Backlash

We’re a week into Pride Month now (though you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s already been a month since it started), and the controversies keep on rolling in. 

The latest target is Oxfam, a UK charity working to alleviate poverty. Or at least, that’s their stated goal; if you watch their Pride Month video, you’d be forgiven for coming to a different conclusion:

But, as the preceding statement makes clear, that’s actually the revised version, because the original video had a distasteful little detail that warranted removal and an apology. That angry internet lady with all the wrinkles? Yeah, originally she had a badge reading “TERF.”

If you’ve somehow made it this long without finding out what TERF means, it stands for “trans-exclusionary radical feminist.” The progressive translation is “a frigid bitch who wants to burn trans women alive to appease the gnawing emptiness and hatred she’s felt ever since her children stopped talking to her.”

The normal person translation is “a woman who thinks biological women are different from biological men, whether said men identify as women or not.”

So it was already loaded in the implication that having a pretty rational belief automatically makes you an aged hag, but then someone pointed out that the TERF cartoon kinda looks like Queen TERF herself, J.K. Rowling.

I mean I guess I can see it, but in the same way that I could look at a portrait drawn by a kindergartener and believe it’s whoever you say it is. It’s a tri-color cartoon. If I’d told you it was David Bowie, you’d squint a little and say, “Yeah, I can see it.”

Anyway, the women were getting very angry, so Oxfam had to re-release their video and issue an apology. And another domino falls, and we are that much nearer the inevitable reckoning.
