CDC Says Mask Guidance Won’t Change Despite Scientific Data Review Showing Masks Made “Little Or No Difference” In COVID Spread

Remember back when the CDC used to pretend like they were following “The Science?” They weren’t really following the science, just the political science and the carefully scripted narrative based on cherry-picked scientific data. But they sure pretended like they were following the science. Now, they’ve dropped the pretense entirely. During a congressional hearing regarding the coronavirus response, CDC Director Walensky was asked whether the CDC planned to amend guidance regarding mandating masks in schools. This question was in response to the publication of a major scientific review of data titled “Physical interventions to interrupt or reduce the spread of respiratory viruses” which found that mask wearing made “little or no difference” in the prevention of the spread of COVID-19. Walensky said they would not be changing their masking guidance, despite these findings rendering their guidance unscientific, illogical, and ineffective.

The analysis of the data was led by 12 researchers from top-tier universities globally and analyzed data from the 2009 H1N1 flu pandemic, various non-epidemic and epidemic flu seasons up to 2016, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Published by Cochrane Library, the review analyzed the findings of 78 randomized controlled trials to decide whether “physical interventions” like face masks and hand washing impacted the spread of respiratory viruses like COVID-19.

The review of the data regarding medical/surgical mask wearing versus no masks revealed that “wearing a mask may make little to no difference in how many people caught a flu-like illness/COVID-like illness (nine studies; 276,917 people); and probably makes little or no difference in how many people have flu/COVID confirmed by a laboratory test (six studies; 13,919 people).” So the science literally says that masks don’t have any meaningful impact on the prevention of COVID-19 spread, thus mask mandates are useless and unnecessary, according to the actual science. But they don’t care about what the science says. They never did. They care about power and control, and mask mandates give them both. So, despite this very clear evidence that mask mandates are unnecessary and ineffective, the CDC says they will not be amending their mask mandate guidance, which influences state, local, and business policies.

According to CDC Director Walensky, “Our masking guidance doesn’t really change with time.” Or with scientific data, apparently. Can you imagine setting scientific and medical policy standards and then refusing to amend them with the presentation of relevant scientific data? That’s literally denial of science. After years of calling us “science deniers,” here they are blatantly denying the science. Because it was never about the science. It was never about public health. It was always about money, power, and control.
