On February 4th, 2021, just days after taking office, President Biden wrote a memorandum (one of a record-setting many) saying,
“In a democracy, the public deserves as much transparency as possible regarding the work of our national security institutions, consistent with legitimate needs to protect sources and methods and sensitive foreign relationships.”
“The revitalization of our national security and foreign policy workforce requires a recommitment to the highest standards of transparency.”
Yeah, that was a lie. He’s lied about a lot of things. He’s a pathological liar. Even the NYT called him a “storyteller in chief” because that was the nicest way they could come up with to discuss his habitual lying. Anyway, there’s a balloon in the sky that is supposedly Chinese and which is supposedly too dangerous to be brought down because of the risk of harming someone on the ground from debris (so why not take it down in the middle of absolutely nowhere Montana…). And we’re supposed to just not worry about the risk to national security to have what is reported to be a Chinese spy balloon circling our nukes and military installations?
As it turns out, the Biden Administration kept this balloon a secret for days until they couldn’t anymore because locals in Montana noticed it and started publishing pictures and videos. Apparently, they didn’t want the announcement of a Chinese spy balloon surveilling the country to get in the way of an upcoming trip to China by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. Yeah… that trip has been postponed.
You know what else they kept secret for political reasons? For some time leading up to the 2022 midterm election, they kept secret the discovery of mishandled classified documents in Biden’s possession. They didn’t want an announcement of a classified documents scandal to get in the way of critical midterm races. Consider what else they’re keeping secret from you? So much for transparency, huh?

Transparent like a cloaking device. The problem is it keeps failing on them.
In the memo, whoever was controlling Biden at that time actually meant, “Transparency as long as said transparency damages people who disagree with us.”
