Despite telling ‘60 Minutes‘ back in the spring of 2022 that the pandemic “is over,” the Biden Administration has announced that it will extend the COVID-19 public health emergency for an additional 90 days. The previous state of emergency was set to expire on January 11th, but will now extend through April. One full year after Biden declared he had “crushed the virus.”

No one is surprised by this move because we know they’ll never let a good crisis go to waste. It’s not about public health at this point. It’s about power, control, and money. The government and other authoritarians across the country hold significant power during “emergencies.” For example, it was this state of “emergency” that the Biden Administration used to justify the unconstitutional redistribution of college student loan debt, a major pet agenda item for radical leftists. Once power is seized, it is rarely relinquished willingly.
Additionally, there are millions and even billions of taxpayer dollars that are available to certain parties during “emergencies” that are not otherwise available to them. Ending the “emergency” cuts off the funding to people who are very much tied to the government that chooses whether to extend the “emergency.”
The justification for this extension is a new COVID-19 variant and continued COVID-related deaths. The problem with that justification is that there are always people dying, and there will continue to be people dying of COVID despite anything we could do. Part of life is personal risk assessment. Functional people weigh risks and make decisions based on those risks. Those who decide that the risks to their health are too great can remain in their own state of emergency as long as they would like. They can wear masks, socially distance, tele-communicate, etc. Howard Stern didn’t leave his house for any reason at all for more than 2 years, and he’s welcome to choose that. But the rest of the non-neurotic population should be allowed to return to their lives, where personal risk assessment is the standard.
We don’t need the government to force on us their mass assessment of the entire population’s personal risks regarding COVID. That’s illogical, unscientific, and completely unconstitutional.
