During a visit to California yesterday, President Biden gave a speech in which he made an extremely clear promise regarding American coal plants. Talking about coal plants, he stated in no uncertain terms, “We’re going to be shutting these plants down all across America.”

This is exactly what the Biden Administration wants to do, ultimately, and what Biden promised to do while he was campaigning back in 2020. But it’s ill-advised to say it out loud like this because coal plants are the life-blood of states like West Virginia and Pennsylvania. There are a heck of a lot of hard working blue collar Americans who heard the President make this promise from the other side of the country, and they had to wonder whether Biden was going to dismissively tell them to learn to code or make solar panels as their careers were destroyed. Pennsylvania is major coal country, and the senate and governor races are very tight right now. And West Virginia’s Senator Joe Manchin released a statement condemning the President’s damaging promise to shut down the coal plants that are essential to his state’s economy and the power structure of the entire country. He said it was “outrageous and divorced from reality” and that it is “time he learn a lesson.” He said,
“Comments like these are the reason the American people are losing trust in President Biden and instead believes he does not understand the need to have an all in energy policy that would keep our nation totally energy independent and secure. It seems his positions change depending on the audience and the politics of the day. Politicizing our nation’s energy policies would only bring higher prices and more pain for the American people.
Being cavalier about the loss of coal jobs for men and women in West Virginia and across the country who literally put their lives on the line to help build and power this country is offensive and disgusting. The President owes these incredible workers an immediate and public apology and it is time he learn a lesson that his words matter and have consequences.”
Today, the White House had to walk back the President’s statements because they were extremely damaging to the Democrat agenda right before the midterms and the President isn’t actually the one in charge. What he says doesn’t mean anything because he has no authority to say things. To walk back this controversial presidential promise, the White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre released a statement where she claimed,
“President’s remarks yesterday have been twisted to suggest a meaning that was not intended; he regrets it if anyone hearing these remarks took offense.”

This woman and this administration have the audacity to blame someone else for supposedly twisting and misrepresenting the President’s remarks when he very literally and very clearly promised that they would be “shutting these plants down all across America?” She’s basically saying, ‘If you thought that the president saying he was going to shut down coal plants across the country meant that the president was going to shut down coal plants across the country, then you’re an idiot because that was obviously not his intended meaning and you are twisting his words. And he’s super sorry if you let yourself be upset by him promising to destroy your industry and your livelihood.’ These people think you’re stupid and they don’t care about you or this country.
