October 8, 2022Yesterday, the Daily Wire broke a story regarding PayPal’s new Acceptable Use Policy. According to the new terms, anyone who PayPal said was guilty of promoting “misinformation” could have $2,500 removed from their accounts to cover the cost of PayPal employees tracking violations and potential damage to the brand. As soon as the the news broke, the public pushed back against the obvious partisan censorship. PayPal is already facing backlash for deplatforming people with whom they disagree politically or socially, and a bunch of people posted proof of them closing their accounts as a result of the new Acceptable Use Policy.
And y’all, PayPal must be dizzy from how fast they pulled a 180 on this issue. They very quickly backtracked and publicly offered the lamest excuse ever. They said,
“An AUP notice recently went out in error that included incorrect information. PayPal is not fining people for misinformation and this language was never intended to be inserted in our policy. We’re sorry for the confusion this has caused.”
This is just laughable. They say that the updated policy “went out in error” and that they didn’t intend to insert that part into the updated policy, as though a whole team of lawyers and executives haven’t been meticulously going through every single line of that legally binding policy? Yeah, right. This is the dumbest excuse I’ve ever heard, but they expect the public to just believe that they accidentally hit “publish” on a new company policy for a multi billion-dollar company? That is just not how things work. I don’t believe a single word of it.
What they didn’t intend was for the Daily Wire to publish that story so fast or for so many people to close down their accounts in response. They were hoping people wouldn’t notice and they could just quietly implement this new censorship.

This is laughable for several reasons, not the least of which is that the great majority of PayPal users literally never have $2500 in their accounts at any time. But for my part, I kicked them to the curb for the clause that says “in PayPal’s sole discretion.” History on that subject makes it plain that their “discretion” cannot be trusted, especially in combination with these clauses: “the promotion of hate, violence, racial or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory” and “depict, promote, or incite hatred or discrimination of protected groups or of individuals or groups based on protected characteristics (e.g. race, religion, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, etc.)” That stinks of “woke,” and I will have no part of it. I’m sure many other former PayPal users feel the same.
