Well, if you haven’t already heard, Joe Manchin’s a spineless sellout (just like every other clown we’ve got “working for us” in Washington).
According to the Daily Caller:
Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin defended his decision to support a likely party-line reconciliation package during a Thursday press call, claiming that the bill would combat inflation and promote American energy independence.
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, announced Wednesday, creates a corporate minimum tax rate of 15% for billion-dollar corporations, pays $300 billion against the federal deficit, and creates prescription drug price caps. The legislation also includes nearly $370 billion in green energy subsidies and tax credits. The Internal Revenue Service would receive nearly $79 million to increase tax enforcement and hire new agents.
“This is not a Democrat bill, this is not a Republican bill, this is an American bill,” Manchin told reporters.
What’s the best way to combat a recession, boys and girls?
Raise taxes and spend more money that we don’t have?? I don’t think that’s the right answer. . . but let’s go with that.
I will, however, point out that it flies in the face of the wise words of the media’s darling:

"You don't raise taxes in a recession."
"The last thing you want to do is to raise taxes in the middle of a recession."

Although, I guess if we’re redefining what recession means, then there’s no use in taking advice that was given on the topic last month, never mind 12 years ago. . .
I’d be curious to know what’s in it for Manchin. He just raised taxes on coal while representing the state of West Virginia. . . I’m thinking that’s going to make for some very upset constituents, but hell, what do I know?
I swear, my trust issues worsen every day (not that I had a lot of faith in politicians to begin with, but you get my point). I’m about ready to call it quits and be Amish. Then I wouldn’t have to be so p*ssed off and disappointed all the time. And there would be homemade butter! That’s enough of a selling-point, right?

Will be interesting to see if he can sway Sinema.
Hi LT. the democrats are giving Manchin a natural gas pipeline is the rumor. That will get him many votes at home. He has been after that for years, but it was blocked by the democrats.
Yeah, because it’s NEVER a bad time to raise taxes on We the People. BTW, it’s consumers that actually pay those corporate taxes and Joe knows it.
Your statement is correct but needs more detail and I hope everyone on this site spreads the word. Which is: the producer pays taxes by adding it as an expense on the sale price. The wholesaler adds their taxes to the sale price. the retailer adds their taxes to the sale price. The final consumer pays 100% of all those taxes when they buy the product or service. The 1040 is just the tip of the iceberg. Most taxes are hidden. Taxes are hidden so the politicians who milk the system do not have to face a rebellion. Also, the employees of the producer, wholesaler and retailer are an expense to them in wages and you pay all those taxes as well.
If you can get some benefit from any Democrat, like Senate Republicans have with Joe Manchin, you take it, but don’t count on it to happen again. Anyone who thinks Manchin should switch parties needs to review all the times he’s voted like any typical Democrat.
