Do you remember this explosive article by The Washington Post that alleged that the President was exerting influence on Georgia officials to manufacture evidence of election fraud?

This story spread quickly as other news outlets used The Washington Post report as a source. It was one of the top stories, especially considering the concerns by conservatives about fraud and election integrity.

The story undermined valid concerns about election integrity and result verification, and bolstered a dismissive attitude toward any election-related concerns. In fact, this story helped to shape the post-election narrative about election integrity and fraud, and it certainly contributed to the failure to properly audit the Fulton County, GA, election, which was pivotal in the state and thus the national election results.
And the story was fake.
A major news outlet that has a massive reach and thus drives the national narrative, published a story based on an anonymous source with incorrect information that had massive and widespread influence. And now, months later, they have issued a correction in which they admit that they “misquoted” Trump.
Omg… possibly the worst correction I’ve ever seen and from the publication that says “Democracy Dies in Darkness”

This is so incredibly disturbing that I’m at a loss for words
There are real world implications to this kind of thing and WaPo should be held accountable. Period. https://t.co/bm9gGEbIK0

This is a pretty massive mistake to make. To rely on an anonymous source for an explosive story that influences the national narrative about a highly contested election for the President of the United States of America.
Quick question, where were the “fact-checkers” when this misinformation was spreading like wildfire?
I think this kind of massive and impactful mistake deserves more than just a paragraph quietly added to the top of the now-corrected article, right? Like maybe publish an entire story to correct your massive misinformation mistake, show how many other articles were based on your false information, show the scope and spread of the misinformation, and explain how your false information influenced the national narrative?
Yeah, that’ll never happen.
Former President Trump issued a statement about this ridiculous misinformation debacle and subsequent correction.
NEW: President Trump releases a statement on the Washington Post retraction on the “find the fraud” story:
“Establishment media errors, omissions, mistakes, and outright lies always slant one way– against me and against Republicans.” pic.twitter.com/qRlPHFkX97
— Daily Caller (@DailyCaller) March 15, 2021
“You will notice that establishment media errors, omissions, mistakes, and outright lies always slant one way–against me and against Republicans. Meanwhile, stories that hurt Democrats or undermine their narratives are buried, ignored, or delayed until they can do the least harm–for example, after an election is over.”
This is spot on.
When was the last time you saw a major mainstream media mistake damaged the liberal narrative or Democrat candidate?
When was the last time the mainstream media buried or held back a story that might have be damaging a conservative narrative or Republican candidate?
Trump reiterated,
“A strong democracy requires a fair and honest press.”
Unfortunately, our press is driven by a narrative rather than honest and objective truth. And the American people suffer because of it.
