Drew Brees is facing major backlash for comments he made regarding the national anthem.
“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America, or our country,” Brees said in an interview with Yahoo Finance.

“A lot of people expect that we will see players kneeling again if and when the NFL season starts,” said Roberts. “I’m curious how you think the NFL will and should respond to that. And of course, you’re such a leader in the league – what is your responsibility as a leader in times like this for the rest of your teammates and players in the league?”
Brees replied:
I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America, or our country. Let me just tell you what I see or what I feel when the national anthem is played and when I look at the flag of the United States. I envision my two grandfathers who fought for this country during WWII – one in the Army and one in the Marine Corps – both risking their lives to protect our country, and to try to make our country and this world a better place.
So, every time I stand with my hand over my heart looking at that flag and singing the national anthem, that’s what I think about. And in many cases, it brings me to tears thinking about all that has been sacrificed – and not just those in the military, but for that matter, those throughout the Civil Rights movements of the 60s, and all that has been endured by so many people up until this point.
Is everything right with our country right now? No, it’s not. We still have a long way to go. But I think what you do by standing there and showing respect to the flag with your hand over your heart is it shows unity. It shows that we are all in this together, we can all do better, and that we are all part of the solution.
The backlash to these REASONABLE and DECIDEDLY NOT OFFENSIVE comments has been swift and intense.
He admits that there are problems with racism in this country. His personal conviction is to stand for the flag that his grandfathers fought for. For this crime, he will be punished.
People are not allowed to have convictions in opposition to the #WOKE position. There is no “your truth” if it is different from liberal orthodoxy. There is no tolerance for a different point of view.

Teammate Malcom Jenkins said that Drew Brees is part of the problem. He claims he’s a friend. Wouldn’t a friend pick up the phone and talk to his friend rather than go on social media and rip him apart?
Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins had something to say about his teammate Drew Brees' comments earlier today.

WOW MAN!! 🤦🏾♂️. Is it still surprising at this point. Sure isn’t! You literally still don’t understand why Kap was kneeling on one knee?? Has absolute nothing to do with the disrespect of 🇺🇸 and our soldiers(men and women) who keep our land free. My father-in-law was one of those https://t.co/pvUWPmh4s8

It would’ve been really easy and convenient for @drewbrees to go along with the “shit on America” theme but he choose to stand up for his country and his beliefs. Amen and God bless America!

Quarterback Drew Brees, who worked tirelessly to save New Orleans after Katrina, now being torched by Lebron et al for UTTERLY sensible, even compassionate remarks about Nat'l Anthem Kneelers. Read what Brees said, you'll see. Morons.

WILL DREW BREES BE ABLE TO WITHSTAND THE LIBERAL ONSLAUGHT OR WILL HE BACKTRACK?
I’m placing my money on a backtrack, sadly. Hopefully, I’m wrong.
I was not wrong. Drew Brees has taken a knee and bowed before the liberal mob. Very predictable.
Here is his apology. So much for honoring his grandparents.
