Army Vet Told To Remove American Flag From Truck At Atlanta Braves Tailgate. Braves – EXPLAIN YOURSELVES AT ONCE.

We got an email that I just had to share with y’all. I get LIVID when I hear stories like this – stories about patriotic people proudly displaying the American flag, only to be scolded for doing so. That’s what happened to an army vet at a recent Atlanta Braves game.

Here’s the story, as told by his friend:

One of my best friends, and probably the most decent guy I know, was asked to take down his American Flag at his Braves tailgate yesterday. Adam is an avid Braves fan, season ticket/parking holder but most importantly, is an Army veteran. Adam served our country throughout the world including multiple tours in Afghanistan. The parking attendant wouldn’t clarify as to “why” it needed to be removed, but basically said “don’t kill the messenger.”

 

Last night against the Cubs was his 16th attended game this year. Up until then, he had zero issues flying the flag as his tailgated for the other 15 games. He had asked why nobody had asked him to remove the flag before and the parking attendant just said, “somebody wasn’t doing their job.”When he asked to speak with her supervisor, she just said “I’m the supervisor and it needs to come down.” But still wouldn’t give the reason as to “why” it needed to come down.

 

The lot is a sanctioned Braves lot. North Lot 29. I listed the lot’s parking rules below. I find it ironic they don’t enforce the no alcohol policy, but are happy to enforce a rule that aren’t even listed.

 

Lot 29

The Braves are committed to creating a safe, comfortable and enjoyable experience for their fans, both inside SunTrust Park and throughout our parking areas. When attending an event at SunTrust Park, all fans should be aware of and comply with the Atlanta Braves Parking Code of Conduct.
Parking is permitted four hours prior to first pitch. Vehicles are not permitted to line up at parking entrances prior to parking availability times.
Please do not leave your vehicle parked overnight.
Please adhere to parking management, security personnel or building personnel regarding where you can park.
No parking spaces may be reserved, held or saved for any reason.
All official barriers, fences and traffic dividers must be observed and not moved or altered.
Have your parking pass, ticket or other type of identification on display during your time at the facility.
Please throw any garbage away, using one of the trash cans made available on site.
The set-up of personal restrooms is not allowed in the parking lot.
RVs, buses and limousines have their own designated parking and drop-off areas elsewhere and are not allowed without advance reservations.
The following actions are strictly prohibited at all times while present at the parking facility:
Lewd and/or disruptive behavior
Loud music or amplified noise
Fighting, taunting or any action that may harm, endanger, threaten or bring discomfort to anyone
Use of foul, abusive or obscene language or gestures
Possession of any illegal drugs
Possession of alcohol
Possession of firearms
Damage, destruction, vandalism or theft of any property

The Atlanta Braves reserve the right to add any additional rules and regulations as in its judgment for the safety, care and cleanliness of the premises and for the preservation of good order. Failure to observe the Parking Code of Conduct, may result in revocation of ticket and parking privileges.

Yeah.  I’ve scoured that list to try to find anything that relates to American flags being displayed at tailgates, and I’m not seeing anything.  I even went to the website to see if perhaps the person who emailed us left something out, and nope, he didn’t.  You can see the same Parking Code of Conduct for that specific lot right here.

Anyway, here’s the rest of the email:

He isn’t the type of guy that would call news departments, not does he have social media, so my friend and I decided we should speak up. He was heartbroken yesterday and felt his favorite baseball team and country let him down.

I’m glad Haley included the Braves and Sun Trust Park on her tweet, but obviously, they need some help drawing attention to this, and I’m more than happy to help out. If you’re on twitter, consider retweeting that and asking for an explanation from the Braves. I’m so sick and tired of the American Flag being treated as something that can be considered offensive to people. If you’re offended by our flag, then kindly GTFO.

UPDATE: 6.30pm ET:  This was covered on the local news station in ATL. Sounds like he got an apology!
