U.S. Surgeon General Jerome M. Adams tweeted this out, urging people to stop buying masks and warning that masks need to be accessible to healthcare providers and to patients who are already sick in an effort to prevent the sick patients from spreading the germs that they already have.
Masks will not prevent people from getting sick and it seems the public is perceiving the opposite.

The more I hear about the Coronavirus panic, I can’t help but think it to be synonymous to someone shouting “Fire!” in a crowded place.
According to The Daily Wire:
Adams also tweeted: “The best way to protect yourself and your community is with everyday preventive actions, like staying home when you are sick and washing hands with soap and water, to help slow the spread of respiratory illness.”
He also said: “Avoid touching your [face] w/ unwashed hands, and wipe down surfaces with cleaning solution or wipes.”
“You can increase your risk of getting it by wearing a mask if you are not a health care provider,” Adams said during an interview on Fox & Friends on Monday morning.
“Folks who don’t know how to wear them properly tend to touch their faces a lot and actually can increase the spread of coronavirus,” Adams said. “We’re certainly seeing more spread in communities, but it’s important for folks to know that right now their risk as American citizens remains low. There are things people can do to stay safe. There are things they shouldn’t be doing and one of the things they shouldn’t be doing in the general public is going out and buying masks.”
I know if anything out of the ordinary is on my face, I’m more inclined to mess with it. Think about when you have a canker sore in your mouth – your tongue automatically increases the amount for which it inspects it and messes with it. It’s just in our nature, especially those of us who don’t have the proper training that healthcare professionals do.
People are just panicking like crazy, thanks to all the media over-sensationalizing this virus. Experts are saying that the symptoms for a typical healthy individual mimic those of the cold and flu, with the Coronavirus not being much worse than the two.
“We think that this has a pretty high rate of mild symptoms and can be asymptomatic. The symptoms are pretty non-specific and testing criteria has been pretty strict, so those combinations of factors means that it easily could have been circulating for a bit without us knowing,” said Justin Lessler, an associated professor of epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
I say leave the masks to the healthcare professionals, as the average American typically doesn’t know how to properly place or remove one, and can often increase germs anyways, and stick with the every day preventive actions.
Wash your hands frequently, don’t have soda with every single meal, don’t lick the ground… the usual stuff.
