One thing that has been made abundantly clear is that food with any kind of multicultural connotation is SERIOUS BUSINESS to the left. Do you like tacos? Or pasta? Or sushi? Unless you are Mexican, Italian, or Japanese, you are a dirty rotten RAAAAAAACIST! You evil cultural appropriator, you!
And apparently we can add fried chicken to the list of forbidden-unless-you’re-a-certain-ethnic-group foods. (Darn… and I really wanted KFC for lunch…)
According to this, a high school in New Jersey is being forced to apologize for serving fried chicken, sweet potato casserole, corn bread, and other types of “soul food” during Black History Month. Because… how DARE you serve a lunch meant to celebrate a certain minority group during the month that we’re supposed to celebrate a certain minority group!
(I never said it made sense, y’all.)
A New Jersey school district and its food vendor are apologizing for a culturally insensitive Black History Month lunch menu that featured fried chicken, sweet potato casserole, greens and cornbread.
“The decision to include these items without any context or explanation, reinforces racial stereotypes and is not consistent with our district mission and efforts to improve cultural competency among our students and staff,” Hope Township superintendent Thomas Smith wrote in a statement cited by NJ.com.
The issue centers on the Feb. 16 lunch menu at Hopewell Valley Central High School: fried chicken, sweet potato casserole, sautéed spinach, mac & cheese, cornbread, and peach or apple crisp.
“The suggestion was to do something to celebrate soul food,” Cathy Penna told the news site.
Penna is the vice president of Pomptonian, the district’s food vendor. She contends the menu was created with the help of a school food service director, and was not intended to offend anyone.
Here’s a picture of the menu –
Okay, this is stupid. How on God’s green earth is mac and cheese offensive to ANYBODY?? Or is it because it was paired with all those other (super delicious) foods? Does eating and enjoying the entire meal together mean that you hate black people? Or does it just mean that you appreciate good food, regardless of whose culture it’s associated with?
I will NEVER understand the Cult of Social Justice getting its shorts in a wad over food and culture. Food is the most basic way that humans can interact with cultures other than their own. Food is almost a universal language. You understand a lot about a group of people by the foods that they eat. Even if you don’t particularly enjoy a certain kind of food (I’m not a great fan of sushi, myself. Just as an example), even just by trying it, that creates a connection.
But by blocking off certain foods simply because it doesn’t “belong” to you, you wreck any kind of potential connection with that group of people. Rather than scream “RACISM!” for serving these kids chicken and greens, why not try to explain why these foods are connected with black culture? Why is it called “Soul Food”? And why are they all so darn delicious?
Oh, but I forgot. The Cult of Social Justice doesn’t want people to understand one another. We’re all supposed to live in our little boxes away from one another. We’re just too different to understand where the other groups are coming from. We can’t possibly have empathy for each other. So, let’s only associate with people who look like us so we can spread gossip and untruths about those EEEEEEVIL different people off in that other box.
Sure, that’s MUCH better.
