This is all kinds of awesome.
According to this, Hagan’s Motor Pool in Rochester, New Hampshire is offering a new AR-15 with the purchase of any vehicle (provided you pass the background check, of course).
“Need a car? Want a free AR-15 also? Get both at Hagan’s,” the used car dealer touts in an ad posted on its Facebook page. Hagan’s even makes an appeal to people to promote this campaign and “Make America Armed Again,” noting that Facebook would not permit such advertising.
The promotional bundle actually kicked off last month, but mostly went under the radar. In the past week, however, in the wake of the tragic Orlando shooting, the promo drew more attention and started sparking controversy. The used car dealer continues to sell a number of vehicles with the AR-15 bundle and seems unfazed by criticism.
Hagan’s, for its part, says that interested customers have to pass a background check to take advantage of this promotional bundle, meaning that it won’t be handing out assault rifles to anyone who buys a used car. Even so, it’s a bit odd to say the least to sell a car + rifle combo.
I’ve gotta say – I LOVE this promotion. Buying and owning a gun should be treated like buying and owning just about anything else. Over the weekend, I was talking to my dad about when he was in high school, EVERYBODY had gun racks and guns in their trucks – even in the high school parking lot. Nowadays, people would have an unholy freak-out if they saw a redneck kid driving around with a rifle in the back window of his or her pickup truck (never mind that said redneck kid would be the first one to fire back at a bad guy shooting up a public place). To this day, when I go visit my parents, it’s not uncommon for my dad to have a rifle in the backseat of his pickup truck. He says (and I quote), “I don’t want to be caught dead for the lack of shooting back.”
(Have I mentioned lately how much I adore my dad? Happy Fathers Day, everyone!)
It’s interesting that this story only started getting traction since the Orlando terrorist attack. The promotion had already been going on long before Orlando, but with the increase discussion around guns – as well as people wanting buy a gun and learn how to use one properly – tends to bring these stories out. In fact, Mr. CJ and I spent Friday morning at our local gun store and range (it’s our version of a hot date) and I overheard employees taking orders on every gun you can think of – including AR-15s.
People are scared. Not just LGBT people, though they certainly have reason to be, but everyone. People are also ticked off. They’re ticked off that the government keeps saying they’re going to protect us, but the government dismisses Islamic terrorists as poor, pitiful, picked on psychopaths who just had too easy of a time buying a gun (trust me, with the number of gun owners in America – if we were actually the problem, you’d know it). So people are taking their defense into their own hands because they’ve realized they can’t depend on an outside force to do it.
So, if you’re in the Rochester area and you’re in the market for a new car AND a new rifle, Hagan’s might be a good place to go for one.
