As if we needed another reason to despise third-wave feminism…
According to a poll conducted by YouGov, fewer and fewer Millennial men identify as “completely masculine,” while 1 in 5 actually identify as “feminine.” When you have an entire generation of males who walk around looking like Justin Bieber, this doesn’t surprise me in the least –
Only 30 percent of adult men under 30 identify themselves as “completely masculine,” according to a survey conducted by YouGov. What’s more, 18 percent — almost 1 in every 5 American men — identify themselves as more feminine than masculine. The study included a random sample of men, regardless of their sexual orientation.
Men in their thirties and early forties were significantly more likely to rate themselves as masculine, and men ages 45 and up overwhelmingly responded that they are completely masculine or almost completely masculine.
Until now, conventional wisdom had held that millennials were redefining gender roles. Now, it appears that the men of our generation are rejecting gender roles altogether. And plenty of women are doing the same: The same YouGov study found that 12 percent of women identify themselves as more masculine than feminine.
So basically, America has gone from men who explore and tame the wild frontier, hunt bears, grill meat, establish towns and cities, protect the innocent to… wimpy little dudes who ask their dates to reimburse them for dinner and drinks.
No. Seriously. That’s mentioned in the article –
There are other men who ask for a date and pay the tab at the end of the night…and then promptly use their Venmo app to ask their dates for reimbursement for the cost of their drinks or meal. How hurtful and tactless, to have someone spend time and money to get to know you and then request a refund. If anyone ever does this to you and you have the self-restraint to not burn down his apartment building, you deserve a medal.
If I were still single (and it wasn’t that long ago that I was), I’d give up all prospects of finding a good man who was actually, you know, manly. And I’ll be the first one to say that I really lucked out on that score. They don’t make ’em like Mr. CJ much anymore.
It’s easy to say we blame feminism for this (and there is plenty of blame to go there, do not get me wrong). There are other factors at work here as well. Society pushed all this super-tough “Girl Power” stuff on girls, without also encouraging boys to embrace their own natural masculinity. Young boys were told to be quiet and stop being rowdy and rambunctious. Women have taken over the responsibilities that men traditionally held and basically told guys that they weren’t necessary anymore. And let’s not even get started on the stupid, made-up, social justice concept of “male privilege” that’s keeping all women everywhere from achieving their highest potential. Yes, even the women who are high-powered CEOs and business owners and who overwhelmingly graduate from college with advanced degrees more often than men do. Yep. Male privilege is TOTALLY oppressing these women.
So here’s my question: When you are being told that you are completely responsible for all these oppressions and microaggressions simply because you’re a man and you identify as a man and all men everywhere are terrible people who commit rape and murder on a daily basis simply by existing, what are you supposed to think? What are you supposed to say? Especially if you’ve never had a positive male role model in your life (and that is happening more and more because women have insisted they can do everything by themselves and they don’t need some man in their lives).
The result of this is that we have more beta males stumbling about through life without direction or purpose. Because the women have taken it all away from them. Even to the point that they deny their own natural masculine tendencies.
Not that men have to go out and wrestle bears to prove how tough they are. I’m talking about things like providing for a family, holding down a steady job, doing something productive with their lives, taking responsibility. And when they do take time for recreation (whether that’s sports or video games or whatever), we don’t beat them up for doing things men traditionally like to do.
But that’s too much to ask in our society, isn’t it?
