Sen. Jeff Sessions Urges House Speaker Paul Ryan To Jump On The Trump Train

Sen. Sessions shocked everyone when he endorsed Donald Trump instead of Ted Cruz. (I was completely blindsided by that one.) But what’s done is done. Donald Trump is the Republican nominee and our only viable chance of defeating Hillary Clinton.

I suspect that many #NeverTrump-sters will concede and pull the lever for Trump come November. Trump may be crass and unpolished, but I at least know he loves this country, and there’s a legitimate change he’ll do things we all agree need to be done.

However, some conservative politicians are dragging their feet, including House Speaker Paul Ryan. He still won’t commit to backing Trump. Sen. Sessions says it’s time.

“He needs to do that,” Sessions said when asked by Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo about a potential Ryan endorsement. “We don’t need to continue having the speaker hanging out there, in my opinion.”

I agree. I know Ryan’s trying to work an angle. He doesn’t want to be seen as the guy who immediately “gave up” and bowed to Trump.

“I feel that I can play a role in unifying,” Ryan said last week. “I don’t want to see our party divided.”

That’s nice and dandy and all, but how is refusing to back the Republican nominee unifying the party again? If anything, he’s holding out for some sort of personal gain. I don’t know. But I’m with Sessions. It’s time to unite.
