We live in a crazy world filled with politically correct garbage. We Chicks write about it almost every day. But I have a confession. I’m guilty too.
I went to the Verizon store the other day to switch over from Sprint. Long story short, I live in New Hampshire during the summers, and Sprint is next to useless up there. (Plus I really wanted the iPhone 6s. That had something to do with it too.) I went in to ask questions a few days prior, and the employee who helped me was wonderful. I asked a lot of dumb questions, and he completely tolerated me. So when I went back in to actually purchase a phone, I wanted to give them his name so he could get the sale or props or whatever they do there. I’m AWFUL at remembering names, so when they asked me, I froze.
“Well, what did he look like?” one of the employees asked me.
“Um. He was tall.” That’s all I could come up with. See, the employee who helped me was a black guy, but for some reason, I felt weird describing him that way, and I HAVE NO IDEA WHY. Why ON EARTH should describing someone by their race make me feel weird? It’s not inappropriate. It’s a description. It’s fact. What happened?
PC culture. That’s what.
I’m still irritated with myself for letting the PC police get to me, even subconsciously. But it really got me thinking. If it can affect me– someone who writes about how ridiculous the Perpetually Offended are almost every single day– how much more does it affect people who aren’t immersed in this stuff on a daily basis?
It’s a scary thought. I’m guilty, but now that I confessed, I feel better and won’t let that happen again. Because it’s SO DUMB. Which brings me to this brilliant cartoon.
This is what’s happening. You don’t even have to be a member of the PC police for this to happen to you.
This PC nonsense needs to STOP.
