In today’s twisted society, it’s increasingly popular to hate on cops. In many cases, I think we forget the heart wrenching things that they go through.
Can you imagine telling an 18-year-old boy that both of his parents were killed in a motorcycle accident, one week before he was set to graduate high school?
That’s exactly what Lt. Eric Ellison did.
Kazzie Portie’s parents died after they were hit by a pickup trick on May 24th. Ellison had to break the news to Portie. He said it was one of the hardest things that he ever had to do.
To make matters worse, Portie was days away from celebrating a huge milestone: Graduating from Cypress–Mauriceville High School.
Ellison told him he would be there to support him, and he fulfilled his promise. There wasn’t a dry eye in the building.
This was such a special moment. Thank you class of 2015 for making this such a memorable occasion for our family. So proud of you @kazz418 I love you so much. Throughout all of this you have been so strong and we are so proud of you. Thank you for being such a great brother. I am so excited to see what the future holds for you. I know mom and bubba are so proud of you. Again, love you brother and thank you for being who you are.Kazzie Portie

“If you didn't have a wet eye you needed to check your pulse. The Montagne Center was the loudest I ever heard it,” Ellison said. “The class of 2015, 245 seniors and their families, on their feet and everyone right behind him.”
The crowd cheered for Portie, and after he was handed his diploma, Ellison was waiting for him.
“I walked up on the stage he looked at me and I looked at him and we both cried and that’s OK,” Ellison said.
“Seeing Officer Ellison there to congratulate me meant the world to me,” Portie said. “It was so nice to see that he actually showed a genuine care for me and my family’s situation instead of us just being another ‘case.’”
Cops doing what they do best. Serving their community. Certainly, Ellison went above and beyond. He also posted this humble status on Facebook:
