You know, I'm so delighted that I don't own a bakery. I do believe it's easier to be a Christian-Chick on the Right than it is to be a Christian baker these days, having to bake cookies and cakes in the (once free) United States of America.
Who would've thought that would be the case. But alas, it is.
Sweet Cakes by Melissa was basically run out of business because two lesbians got mad that they didn't make them a cake. People heard the story, and a crowdfunding campaign raised a whole crap-ton of money for the family, which is great, because these people were not only out of business, but they were going bankrupt personally – which was the icing on the cake, so to speak.
A crowdfunding campaign that had raised more than $109,000 for the Christian-owned bakery Sweet Cakes by Melissa in Oregon was removed Saturday after complaints from gay-rights advocates. The website GoFundMe said in a statement Saturday that it took down the page because the campaign violated the policy against raising money “in defense of formal charges of heinous crimes, including violent, hateful, or sexual acts.”
Did y'all get that? It was a "heinous crime" for Sweet Cakes by Melissa to not make a damn cake for a gay wedding.
Seriously.
Now, I don't care where you are on this issue, this is not a freaking HEINOUS CRIME. It's just not making a cake.
It's a FREAKING CAKE, people.
“The campaign entitled ‘Sweet Cakes by Melissa‘ involves formal charges. As such, our team has determined that it was in violation of GoFundMe’s Terms & Conditions,” said GoFundMe in an email statement.
So that's that.
Meantime, GoFundMe still has campaigns up for all sorts of REAL criminals. Ones that have done things that may be considered, well, "heinous." One for a dude named "Elijah Wilson (who) was convicted in the mob beating death of De'Bron Aldrick Harrison."
They're also happy to fund a convicted drug dealer.
And they're ecstatic to help fund a dude who was convicted of molesting two young girls.
You know, that stuff is no big deal. But not making a CAKE FOR A GAY WEDDING?
OMG HEINOUS.
This country has gone and lost its mind.
