Do y’all remember when Paul Krugman wrote an opinion piece for the NYT right after Trump was elected? And I do mean right after – he wrote his stupid column at like midnight as the results were still being finalized.
I want to show you my favorite bits from his column. But first, keep in mind, he’s an ECONOMIST. In fact, he’s an award winning economist. According to his wiki, he won the Nobel Memorial prize in Economic Sciences in 2008. He taught econ at MIT and Princeton. He’s written 27 books and has published over 200 articles in professional journals.
In short, he’s the kind of elitist that liberals love to look up to as the end-all, be-all expert in his field.
Which is why re-reading his election night column gives me the glees. Look at how his column kicked off:
It really does now look like President Donald J. Trump, and markets are plunging. When might we expect them to recover?
Frankly, I find it hard to care much, even though this is my specialty. The disaster for America and the world has so many aspects that the economic ramifications are way down my list of things to fear.
Still, I guess people want an answer: If the question is when markets will recover, a first-pass answer is never.
HA HA HA HA HA HA! Yeah – those markets would NEVER RECOVER from a Trump presidency in Professor Emeritus Krugman’s view. And obviously everyone now knows how wrong Krugman was. Not only did they recover, they reached record highs like 70+ times this calendar year.
But nope – it was all doom and gloom to Krugman. He concluded:
Now comes the mother of all adverse effects — and what it brings with it is a regime that will be ignorant of economic policy and hostile to any effort to make it work. Effective fiscal support for the Fed? Not a chance. In fact, you can bet that the Fed will lose its independence, and be bullied by cranks.
So we are very probably looking at a global recession, with no end in sight. I suppose we could get lucky somehow. But on economics, as on everything else, a terrible thing has just happened.
I haven’t checked to see how Krugman excuses his complete miscalculation on this now, because I can’t bring myself to care enough about how he’s trying to cover his assular area on this, but suffice it to say, he should never ever ever ever ever be taken seriously by anyone ever ever ever again ever.
I guess we just got “lucky somehow,” right Paul?
Moron.
If you ever encounter a liberal who looks to Krugman as some sort of legitimate authority, please show them this post.
