In a world full of celebrities making their acceptance speeches about how much our country sucks, bashing the current administration, freeing Palestine, BLM, trans rights, and so much other BS, be a Jessie Buckley. The Oscars happened this past Sunday. I did not watch. I used to love award show season before it got so political. But in recent years I have watched less and less award shows because, frankly, they just annoy me. However, as I was doom scrolling on social media throughout today I stumbled upon several clips of one acceptance speech that was a breath of fresh air.
Jessie Buckley won the award for Best Actress on Sunday for her role in Hamnet. Her speech was so sweet and heartwarming. She talked about motherhood and marriage in such a beautiful way. She said, “Get married, marriage is not a trap. Have children, babies are not a burden.” How refreshing to hear in a world where every woman is told they need to be independent, men are evil, pets are better than kids, and the nuclear family is dying out.

“Quisiera dedicar este premio al hermoso caos del corazón de una madre. Cásate, el matrimonio no es una trampa. Ten hijos, los bebés no son una carga.”

This is one of the best acceptance speeches I have seen in a long time. Shout out to Jessie Buckley for being such a beautiful soul and such a role model for women.
