In that case, I’m going to take every opportunity I can to use the word “derp.” Beginning with calling these morons out for their derpy derpitude.
According to this, two scholars have been forced to apologize by some social justice scold for their use of the term. More accurately, it was the adjective form – “derpy.” See, if you say someone is being derpy, that’s an ableist slur and might make people with disabilities feel bad. So don’t say it! Not unless you want some super-courageous social justice warrior up in your face.
That’s the excuse, anyway. I just think it’s an attempt to rob people of more creative vocabulary to use to describe how utterly stupid and moronic social justice whiners are when they complain about the words people use.
Here is some of this nonsense apology –
The word “derpy” was introduced to us as a pop-cultural term that meant believing in something despite the fact that it has been disproven. A provocative notion, given that our aim was to suggest that while queer theory has effectively undone “sexuality” as a concept, empirical research (even thoughtful, feminist sexual science) persists as if the complexity of sexuality is ultimately map-able and as if the right set of variables will resolve the epistemological differences of critical theory and neuroscience once and for all. …
As it turns out, the term “derpy” has also been appropriated as an ablist[sic] slur. We regret our negligence in not figuring that out before the Commentary was published.
Somehow, I’m not surprised that something as derpy as “feminist sexual science” came up in this.
Here’s an idea: The next time someone comes after you for using a term that they find offensive but no one else does, tell them ever so kindly to f*** off.
Or is that too offensive for their delicate sensibilities too?
There really is only one way to end the discussion of how offensive “derp” is to these idiots –
My work here is done.
