Jordan Peele: ‘I Don’t See Myself Casting A White Dude As The Lead’ In My Movies

Jordan Peele, former funny man turned Social Justice Warrior, wants everyone to know that racism doesn’t go both ways.

See, I’d like for you all to sit back and imagine, for a moment, a white director proudly proclaiming he simply has no interest in casting black people as lead roles in his movies. He doesn’t want to, and he doesn’t have to. He’s just not interested in watching movies with black people in them. Everyone then claps for his bravery! Hooray!

Right?

WRONG.

He would be immediately shunned as a racist. Possibly, rightly so. What does the color of an actor’s skin have to do with a movie? I’m not sure.

So why then, is Jordan Peele saying exactly that… and getting praise for it?

Get Out director Jordan Peele said that he doesn’t see himself casting any white men as a lead actor in his films during a panel appearance Monday at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles.

“I get to cast black people in my movies. I feel fortunate to be in this position where I can say to Universal, ‘I want to make a $20 million horror movie with a black family.’ And they say yes,” Jordan Peele said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ok. That’s fine. Do whatever you want. No one’s stopping you! It’s what came next that made me question his intentions:

Peele continued, saying that he doesn’t want to cast a “white dude” to lead one of his films, prompting the audience to applaud.

“I don’t see myself casting a white dude as the lead in my movie. Not that I don’t like white dudes,” he said, nodding over to his moderator pal Roberts. “But I’ve seen that movie.” The line drew loud applause and shouts of agreement. “It really is one of the best, greatest pieces of this story, is feeling like we are in this time — a renaissance has happened and proved the myths about representation in the industry are false.”

Wow. It’s not that he doesn’t like white people, he’s just tired of white people.

How brave.

Again… cast whoever you want. Do whatever you want. I legitimately don’t care.

I’m just so sick of the double standard that permeates our entire society at this point. It used to be that the goal was to one day live in a world where the color of someone’s skin DIDN’T MATTER.

We’ve come to a place in time where seemingly, it matters above all.
