Internet Explodes Following News of Jussie Smollett’s Charges Being Dropped

I am shocked.

Seriously… what just happened? This literally just came out of nowhere.

Cook County prosecutors have dropped all charges against Jussie Smollett. Yes. Seriously – all of them.

According to the Chicago Tribune:

In a stunning reversal, Cook County prosecutors on Tuesday dropped all charges against “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett on disorderly conduct charges for allegedly staging a phony attack and claiming he was the victim of a hate crime.

“We believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case,” a prosecutor said in announcing the dismissal of all 16 counts.

There had been no clue that prosecutors planned the about-face move before the announcement. A publicist for Smollett’s attorney was the first to notify the news media Tuesday morning, issuing an alert that did not elaborate on the nature of the emergency.

Moments after Judge Steven Watkins allowed the dismissal, attorneys for Smollett issued a statement.

“Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him,” the statement said. “Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on January 29th. He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgment.

I’m not seeing how he’s not guilty. Just that the charges were dropped.

According to Daily Wire:

Kevin Graham, the president of the Chicago police union, sent a letter on March 15 to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) requesting a federal investigation into Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, alleging that Foxx interfered in the police’s investigation of “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett.

I’m sure she’s made a lot of new friends today.

Graham accuses Foxx — who eventually recused herself from the case — of acting inappropriately when she tried to talk Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson into handing the Smollett investigation over to the FBI. The Chicago Sun-Times reports:

Foxx’s call to Johnson came after an influential supporter of the “Empire” actor reached out to Foxx personally: Tina Tchen, a Chicago attorney and former chief of staff for former First Lady Michelle Obama, according to emails and text messages provided by Foxx to the Chicago Sun-Times in response to a public records request…

…Text messages show Tchen contacted Foxx on Feb. 1, three days after Smollett said he was jumped by two men as he walked home from a sandwich shop near his Streeterville home. Tchen texted Foxx to set up an early morning phone call.

Text messages showed that Foxx told both Tchen and Smollett’s relative that she had personally reached out to Johnson and requested that he give the investigation over to the FBI.

Hmm. Because she knew Tchen would have more influence there?

According to text messages provided by the Sun-Times, Foxx wrote: “Spoke to the superintendent earlier. He is going to make the ask. Trying to figure out logistics. I’ll keep you posted.”

The relative replied: “OMG this would be a huge victory.”

And it was.

Jussie is now completely off the hook.

Sure, Foxx recused herself. But what exactly is going on behind closed doors? Something is incredibly fishy about all of this.
