People Are Crapping In National Parks Due To The Government Shutdown

The biggest way a partial government shutdown affects most of us? National parks. Even then, you have to have plans to visit one in the first place. I don’t know of many people who make a habit of visiting national parks around Christmas and New Year’s, but apparently some people do. And these people are actually CRAPPING IN THE PARKS, due to the partial government shutdown.

Human feces and garbage have been overflowing at the campgrounds of Yosemite and Joshua Tree national parks — because there’s no staff on hand to clean up, according to new reports.

In California, tourists have been relieving themselves on the sides of the roads because Yosemite’s restrooms and visitor centers have been shuttered since Dec. 22, when the shutdown began, the Los Angeles Times reported.

It’s getting so bad that campgrounds are having to close due to the increasing health hazards.

Seriously guys? There’s no emergency to visit a national park, and if you just HAVE to visit one during a government shutdown, be respectful and figure out how you’re going to relieve yourself prior to going.

Human poop and urine were found along Wawona Road — known as California Highway 41 — in the southern part of the park, which forced the closure of the Mariposa Grove and the Wawona and Hodgson Meadows campgrounds.

Dakota Snider, who lives and works in Yosemite Valley, called the disgusting display a “free-for-all” with the shutdown now in its second week.

“It’s so heartbreaking,” the 24-year-old told the Associated Press. “There is more trash and human waste and disregard for the rules than I’ve seen in my four years living here.”

People are gross. There’s no excuse. Grow up. You shouldn’t need a park ranger in your face to tell you that it’s not OK to crap all over national parks. If you HAVE to visit, hold it or put on a freaking diaper.
