I don’t think it’s any secret that we Chicks are rooting for Ted Cruz to win the Senate race next month against Beto O’Rourke.
And I think we’ve made pretty clear that Beto’s DUI/hit-and-run incident back when he was 26 is a pretty big strike against him – or should be – as that says a lot about his adult character. He was an adult. This wasn’t a high school or college thing. This was as an ADULT.
But this? This is completely asinine, and is indicative of just how over-the-top stupid our culture is right now.
According to the sourcelink, Beto is apologizing for a Broadway musical review he wrote in 1991, while he was a 19-year old college student. I am not making this up.
In his review of The Will Rogers Follies (again, not making this up), Beto wrote for the Columbia Daily Spectator (the university paper), that the show featured, “perma-smile actresses whose only qualifications seem to be their phenomenally large breasts and tight buttocks.”
He also wrote that the whole show was “one of the most glaring examples of the sickening excesses and moral degradations of our culture,” and that the show was, “produced and directed in such a showy, glitzy, and ultimately, tacky manner, that one cannot help feeling disgusted throughout the show.”
If you’re reading that and thinking it’s nothing more than one random college kid’s opinion of a freaking Broadway musical, congratulations. You are a normal human being. But we live in a world now where apparently your qualifications for a career are called into question if you THREW ICE AT SOMEONE IN A BAR WHILE YOU WERE IN COLLEGE, so naturally Beto felt like he had to apologize for his thoughtless, heartless review, 27 years after he wrote it.
He said to Politico, after the original story published, “I am ashamed of what I wrote and I apologize. There is no excuse for making disrespectful and demeaning comments about women.”
OMG. Seriously? We’re seriously doing this now?
I’d have had more respect for him if he’d refused to apologize for this, because this is f*cking stupid.
And there are two other points here:
Now, I don’t know if that means someone in Cruz’s Actual Campaign sent the story to Politico, but if that’s the case, that’s completely lame, UNLESS they were doing it to prove that Politico is as ridiculous as we have long known it is.
In any case, this story is idiotic, Beto shouldn’t have apologized, and that musical ended up winning 6 Tony Awards.
The End.
