LeBron James Is Trying To Subtly ‘Troll’ Laura Ingraham In New Documentary

You’re going to have to reach waaaaaaaaaaaaay back into your memory for this one.

There was a bunch of drama between Laura Ingraham and LeBron James earlier this year. It all started after James criticized Donald Trump in a video.

Laura Ingraham responded and channeled what we are ALL feeling. We’re sick of celebrities spouting their uninformed opinions.

“Look, there might be a cautionary lesson in LeBron for kids,” Ingraham said. “This is what happens when you attempt to leave high school a year early to join the NBA. And it’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid a hundred-million dollars a year to bounce a ball.”

Ingraham ultimately told the athletes to “shut up and dribble.”

“Must they run their mouths like that?” Ingraham said. “Unfortunately, a lot of kids — and some adults — take these ignorant comments seriously.”

It’s true. Culture and politics are uniquely intertwined.

“Oh, and LeBron and Kevin: You’re great players, but no one voted for you,” she continued. “Millions elected Trump to be their coach. So keep the political commentary to yourself or, as someone once said, shut up and dribble.”

James responded by saying that he couldn’t “shut up and dribble,” because he’s too important to society.

“I will not just shut up and dribble. So, thank you, whatever her name is I get to sit up here and talk about what’s really important and how I can help change kids,” he said. “It lets me know that everything I’ve been saying is correct for her to have that type of reaction. But we will definitely not shut up and dribble. I will definitely not do that. I mean too much to society, I mean too much to the youth, I mean too much to so many kids that feel like they don’t have a way out and they need someone to help lead them out of the situation they’re in.”

He also concluded that her remark was “racist,” because obviously it is. //sarc

Ingraham’s response was perfection:

“In 2003, I wrote a New York Times best-seller called ‘Shut Up & Sing,’ in which I criticized celebrities like the Dixie Chicks & Barbra Streisand who were trashing then-President George W. Bush. I have used a variation of that title for more than 15 years to respond to performers who sound off on politics. I’ve told Robert DeNiro to ‘Shut Up & Act,’ Jimmy Kimmel to ‘Shut Up & Make Us Laugh,’ and just this week told the San Antonio Spurs’ Gregg Popovich to ‘Shut up & Coach,’” she wrote.

“If pro athletes and entertainers want to freelance as political pundits, then they should not be surprised when they’re called out for insulting politicians. There was no racial intent in my remarks – false, defamatory charges of racism are a transparent attempt to immunize entertainment and sports elites from scrutiny and criticism. Additionally, we stated on my show that these comments came from an ESPN podcast, which was not the case – the content was unaffiliated with ESPN,” she added.

So here we are. A few months have gone by, and James is getting her back. He’s producing a Showtime documentary series titled “Shut Up and Dribble.” The series will look at “the changing role of athletes in the current political and cultural climate against the backdrop of the NBA.”

James is the executive producer of the series along with his business partner Maverick Carter and his agent Rich Paul. Gotham Chopra, who directed Showtime’s ‘Kobe Bryant’s Muse’ in 2015, helmed the project.

The series traces the modern history of the league and its players starting with the 1976 merger of the freewheeling American Basketball Association and the National Basketball Association, how the top players have expanded their notoriety off the court in fields such as business and fashion while becoming icons in the process.

Sounds like a snoozefest.

I’m just sick of the double standard. If an athlete is a liberal, he or she is practically worshipped. But if an athlete comes out as a “conservative,” they’re berated. It’s so messed up. Perhaps James could produce a documentary on THAT conundrum? I’d be willing to watch that.
