Taylor Swift Donates Concert Tickets To First Responders For One Touching Reason

About two weeks ago, Weymouth Police Department Sgt. Michael Chesna was shot and killed in the line of duty. He left behind his wife and two young children– Olivia, 9, and Jack, 4.

Chesna, 42, was on the force for six years and was a U.S. Army combat veteran. He graduated from Weymouth High School in 1994 and went on to train at Boylston Police Academy.

The fallen sergeant, who was promoted posthumously, was killed Sunday after he responded to a report of an erratic driver and crashed vehicle.

The suspect, who has been identified as Emanuel Lopes, reportedly threw a rock at Chesna and grabbed Chesna’s gun, fatally shooting him.

Chesna was honored and laid to rest in a beautiful and heart-wrenching ceremony.

“Today we honor the memory of Sgt. Michael C. Chesna. We remember him as a loyal and dedicated husband, a devoted father, a son, a brother, an uncle, a soldier, a friend and a police officer, but most importantly, an American hero and patriot,” said Joseph Comperchio, Chesna’s brother-in-law and a captain with the Weymouth police.

“I know that no words I provide you with today can ease the pain that you now have,” he said. “I promise you this – the members of the Weymouth Police Department are your family, and you will never be alone.”

His wife’s words slay me.

“Mike, I would like to tell you that I love you more than anything in this world and that you are my best friend and the best dad the kids could ever have,” her statement said. “I will make sure the kids know how great you are and how fortunate I was to have you in my life… Mike, my hero, I will always love you and forever.”

My heart breaks for his friends, family and the entire community, and I’m not the only one.

Taylor Swift heard about this devastating tragedy and wanted to help the grieving community, so she donated “hundreds” of tickets to her upcoming concert at Gillette Stadium to first responders and their families within that community.

“My understanding is that they did it low-key and weren’t looking for publicity,” Weymouth Mayor Robert Hedlund said, according to the Patriot Ledger. “There were enough to send every police officer, firefighter and extended family to the concert, and then some.”

“The gesture was absolutely generous, significant and appreciated,” he added.

Classy move from Taylor for sure. It’s always heartening to see celebrities take the time to recognize and honor those who put their lives on the line every single day to keep our communities safe.
