Chicago was on a roll when it came to violence last week. Between the young woman who was set on fire on the L train on Monday and the shooting that broke out on the loop on Friday, you’re probably wondering what Governor JB Pritzker has to say about their bloody week. And while he tends to love to open his mouth to inhale food or smack-talk Republicans, he has been silent regarding Chicago’s recent stretch of violence.
We all know if the situation on the L train had been reversed things would have been handled very differently. If a white man had set a young black woman on fire, Pritzker would have been out immediately condemning the situation. But in this case the victim is the wrong color, therefore the result has been crickets on the governor’s end.
After Friday’s shooting, President Donald Trump offered to send in the National Guard. The president wrote on Truth Social on Saturday, “The people are chanting, BRING IN TRUMP!!!”
The president has now made several offers to send in the National Guard. “Pritzker needs help badly, just doesn’t know it yet. I will solve the crime problem fast, just like I did in DC. Chicago will be safe again,” he stated in September, per ABC News.
I don’t know why any leader would say no to additional help securing their city from violence, but then again, I’m not a Democrat.
President Trump said on Saturday’s Truth Social post that his offer of federal support is being denied. “Governor Pritzker and the low IQ Mayor of Chicago are refusing Federal Government help for a situation that could be quickly remedied.”
Too bad Trump didn’t say “low-IQ mayor of Chicago and high-BMI governor of Illinois,” but I digress.
Trump is 100% right. Things could be going a lot more smoothly if they accepted help—and the citizens of Chicago would be safer because of it.
