I know this doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, but it serves as yet another reminder that we’re dealing with a serious bias. They don’t even try to hide it anymore.
Magazines are ignoring First Lady Melania Trump. It’s a wonder, really. For crying out loud, she’s a former model. Fashionable magazine covers are right in her wheelhouse.
It all started with this tweet from James Woods:
If the Trumps were Democrats, Melania would be on every cover of every chic women’s magazine in the world every month. pic.twitter.com/yLDSkfKufT
— James Woods (@RealJamesWoods) April 7, 2018
The tweet, which was accompanied by an old photo of the first lady sitting in a gilded chair in a pale blue strapless dress, struck a chord, garnering 62,000 likes, 20,000 retweets and 4,900 comments.
During her tenure as first lady, Melania has only graced one magazine cover — Vanity Fair Mexico — in February 2017.
Here’s that cover:
That’s right. She’s only been on ONE cover since becoming First Lady. Michelle Obama, however, graced the cover of magazines at least 30 times throughout her husband’s two terms.
Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, doesn’t sound interested in incorporating the First Lady on any future covers.
But Wintour, an Obama fundraiser, did pull out all the stops for Michelle Obama when she served as first lady from 2009 to 2017.
During Barack Obama’s eight-year presidency, Michelle appeared on at least 30 US magazine covers, three of which were Vogue.
She also appeared twice on the covers of Essence magazine, Time magazine, More magazine and Glamour magazine. Other covers included Redbook, InStyle, and Radar.
I know this doesn’t really matter, but it’s just another example of the bias. If Melania had a “D” next to her name, she’d be on #AllTheCovers. But since she’s married to Donald Trump, she’s Satan and any picture of her on a magazine cover will probably #trigger too many snowflakes. Please ignore the fact that she’s a freaking fashion ICON.
First America Lady Melania is so beautiful and graceful

Melania is an inspiration to every young woman she meets , but she also isn't a camera attention getting freak like some others have been.

Showing their liberal bias & poor marketing. Melania on magazine covers along with articles of the good things she is doing with & for American children of all backgrounds & nationalities would be a good thing.

It certainly would be.
