The Trump administration recently announced it was expelling dozens of Russian diplomats in response to the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in the UK. The Trump administration also announced it would close the Russian consulate in Seattle “due to its proximity to one of our submarine bases and Boeing.”
“The United States takes this action in conjunction with our NATO allies, and partners around the world in response with Russia’s use of a military grade chemical weapon on the soil of the United Kingdom — the latest in its ongoing pattern of destabilizing activities around the world,” the White House said in a statement.
“Today’s actions make the United States safer by reducing Russia’s ability to spy on Americans, and to conduct covert operations that threaten America’s national security,” the statement continued. “With these steps, the United States and our allies and partners make clear to Russia that its actions have consequences.”

The moves were announced by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
It comes amid a row over the nerve agent attack on a former Russian spy and his daughter in southern England.

He said they included “the expulsion of the equivalent number of diplomats and our decision to withdraw permission for the functioning of the US consulate general in Saint Petersburg”.
The tango continues…
