Shaq doesn’t want FEWER guns… he wants MORE.
And he’s got an idea about how to keep our schools safe…
Former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal hasn’t shied away from making his views on gun control known.
The retired basketball star, who played for the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat and was also sworn in as a reserve police officer for the city of Doral, Florida in January 2015, believes that more police officers in schools and cities are the answers to gun violence, not more gun control laws.
O’Neal made the comments during an interview on the ‘Curtis and Cosby’ show on WABC Radio after being asked about last month’s mass shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida that left 17 dead.
‘You put [officers] in front of the schools, you put ’em behind the schools, you put ’em inside the schools, and we need to pass information,’ O’Neal stated, adding that he ‘would like to see police officers in schools, inner cities, private schools.’
O’Neal expressed serious doubt that new gun control laws and even outright firearms bans would be an effective way to combat gun violence in the United States.
‘It’s not like, if you say, ‘OK, these weapons are banned,’ people are gonna go, ‘Oh man, let me turn it in.’ That’s definitely not going to happen,’ O’Neal stated.
He also elaborated on his views on gun control, stating that: ‘Once you ban ’em, now they’re going to become a collector’s item and you’re going to have people underground, and they were $2,000. … I’ll give you $9,000 for that gun. So, you know, we just need to keep our eyes open.’
O’Neal’s comments came on the same day that thousands of students all across the United States staged a mass walkout to protest gun violence in the country.
And just like THAT, one former basketball star (and star of the LEGENDARY film KAZAAM.) has more sense about guns than the entire left put together.
Interesting how that happens.
Of course, the left is out for blood on this one…
Shaq you are very wrong about this one. Gun control is not banning guns. Why should our schools be surrounded by officers with guns?
