March 7, 2018Sen. Ted Cruz released a new campaign ad, and I’m sorry. It’s ridiculously catchy. (PS if you hate country music, you’ll probably hate it. But either way, this is definitely going to get stuck in your head. Just a warning.)

“If you’re gonna run in Texas, you can’t be a liberal maaannnnnnnnn.”
I’m going to be singing that all day now. SO CATCHY. However, the left is really upset over one line in the song. I don’t know if you heard, but the jingle pokes fun at Rep. Beto O’Rourke for going by “Beto” instead of “Robert.” After all, Cruz doesn’t go by HIS birth name– Raphael Edward Cruz.
Thank goodness, CNN was determined to get to the bottom of this.
“In terms of the jingle, some of it is just having a sense of humor,” Cruz said on CNN’s “New Day.” “We had some fun with it.”
“But, but– your name is Raphael Edward Cruz!” – Chris Cuomo, basically.

“You’re absolutely right. My name is Raphael Edward Cruz,” Cruz stated. “I am the son of my father Raphael Cruz, an immigrant from Cuba who came to Texas with nothing.”
I can’t believe this is even a controversy. It’s a freaking jingle. Even O’Rourke doesn’t seem to care.
“I just don’t think that’s what folks in Texas want us to focus on,” he told CNN.
“We can get into name-calling and talk about why the other person is such an awful guy, or we can focus on the big things we want to do for the future of our country, for the generations that will succeed us,” he continued. “We can focus on the small, mean, petty stuff, or we can be big, bold, courageous, and confident.”
Calling someone by their real name isn’t name-calling, just FYI.
Whatever.
