Here’s What You Need To Tell Liberals Who Fight You On What “Well-Regulated Militia” Means.

I am SICK AND TIRED of the survivors of the Parkland shooting lashing out at the NRA and demanding sweeping policy changes.  I have sympathy for their pain, of course, and can’t begin to imagine what they experienced last week, and I don’t blame them for wanting to express their rage. But I DO blame them for misdirected rage, misguided rage, and misinformed rage.  That does no one any good. I’d argue, in fact, that it does massive harm.

And I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed I am in President Trump right now for suggesting that we raise the age at which people can buy firearms.  I can’t begin to tell you how disappointed I am that he’s ceding any ground on this pointless bumpstock thing.  All that does is legitimize gun control advocates on this issue, when they are flat wrong.  You know what can be used to imitate the action of a bumpstock?  A belt loop.  Are we going to ban those next?

If the age at which one can buy a firearm is raised to 21, then we can no longer expect 18-20 year olds to serve in the military.  It is patently unreasonable ALREADY that they can’t drink at 18, if in fact they are expected to be “adult” enough to risk their lives for this country.  And if we decide now that 21 is the new official “adult” age for everything, then I hope everyone is prepared for a woefully understaffed military.  I hope everyone is prepared for their kids to be drafted at 21.

This is madness.

But none of that is really the point of my post.

Daisy and I were on a rampage on our show this morning about yesterday’s student rally, about Trump’s listening session, and most of all about the shameful display CNN put on last night.  Rubio wilted like a week-old rose under the pressure.  Dana Loesch didn’t have a prayer of making a point against the rabid anti-gun crowd.  It was the worst kind of ambush, and it was horrific in every way.

On the show today, I was reminded of a post that Hannah did about Alyssa Milano, which included some historical context about the 2nd amendment that I felt needed to be stated again.  In fact, it needs to be stated again and again and again and again, and y’all need to share it with everyone you know, so that we can begin to put this ridiculous liberal talking point to bed.

If you know anything about how our country was founded, you know that early colonists who protested taxation without representation formed a Continental Congress (made up of 12 colonies) to wrestle power away from Great Britain.  In other words, REGULAR PEOPLE took up arms in order to escape tyrannical rule.  Regular people formed a militia, ultimately resulting in a vote for independence and the creation of our America. And, as Hannah so perfectly wrote:

The Founders understood human nature all too well. They knew corruption could grow within an unchecked government all too easily. “Peaceful” regimes could easily grow into tyrannical regimes. After all, that had been the cycle throughout all of human history. They knew they had to found a nation that naturally fought against the bad aspects of human nature (while harnessing the good), and they did just that.

The Founders understood that no free man would ever be stripped of their right to keep and bear arms. You can find that phrase in Thomas Jefferson’s draft of the Virginia Constitution. In another letter to James Madison, Jefferson wrote, “What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms.”

Hannah also quoted Madison in her earlier post:

“Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.”

Hannah explained further:

The Second Amendment wasn’t designed to protect hunters. It was designed to protect law-abiding citizens who value freedom and loathe tyranny. The Second Amendment is a permanent safeguard against the government.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Liberals get caught up on the “Well regulated Militia” phrase, but historical context is key. Think about it. Was that a time people were looking to the government for answers and protection? No. “Well regulated” meant disciplined and responsible. If you have a weapon, be responsible and know how to use it. “Militia” was a common term back then too. These days, it’s not a common, everyday word. We think of professional dudes marching, actively preparing for battle. In reality, militias were made up of– you guessed it– regular citizens. Translate that today. A militia– that’s you and your law-abiding, gun owning friends. You’re the militia. Think about how absurd the Second Amendment would be if we applied the left’s logic to it. You’re meaning to tell me the Founders meant to say that an entity controlled and maintained by the government is necessary to keep American citizens safe and free from…the government?

A militia run by the government will protect us from the government?

That’s completely illogical.

BINGO.

Any liberal who tries to tell you that what the Founders MEANT by “well-regulated militia” was some government-sanctioned, government-run civilian army is utterly clueless and hasn’t even begun to grasp the total FAIL of their argument.  It makes zero sense.

The Founders were very clear.  And they knew that “governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.”

They should be.  That’s how a republic stays a republic.

And for all the clowns who say, “The 2nd amendment is outdated!” or “The Constitution is old and doesn’t apply to modern times!” OMG GET A FREAKING GRIP.

Hannah continued:

The Second Amendment ensures that we can protect our life, liberty and property. There’s no doubt about that. That point was SO obvious back then that the Founders didn’t feel the need to explicitly state it. Back then, it was common sense. Who would’ve predicted that all common sense would fly out the window over 200 years later.

The Second Amendment exists as a permanent check on the government. Liberals like to say we’re crazy. I’ve heard it all. “Why do you need a gun?! You’re going to TAKE UP ARMS against the government? Seriously? You would do that? You WANT to do that? Are you out of your mind?”

No. I’m not out of my mind, and neither were the Founders. None of us want to “take up arms” against the government, and we’ll likely NEVER have to, thanks to the Second Amendment. That’s the whole point of it. The government is hesitant to tread on our liberties, because it knows what we possess. It knows we’d end up with full blown civil war. Don’t you see? The Second Amendment is actively working. Right now. It always has been.

Other countries don’t have that. There’s virtually nothing stopping corrupt governments from doing the Mexican hat dance on the people’s liberties. Taking guns away from the citizenry is a hallmark of corrupt regimes. There’s a reason for that. That’s why I always laugh when the left pretends that President Trump is a dictator. They’re the ones who want to take guns away from the people.

It simply cannot be overstated.  Share her words (and our Founders’) with everyone you know.
