Last week, President Trump surprised everyone by allowing the press to watch a bipartisan meeting on immigration with lawmakers. As gross as it sounds, we got a glimpse of “how the sausage is made.” For a moment it felt like we may actually reach a reasonable deal on DACA and immigration. President Trump maintained that a wall HAD to be part of the deal.

Democrats are feeling awfully desperate. For a split second I thought, “Maaaaaaaybe they’ll cave.” Remember that leaked memo? Democrats admitted that they only care about Dreamers for their own “electoral success.”
We already knew they felt that way, but confirmation is always nice.
Admittedly, I felt a little uneasy after watching some of the highlights from the meeting. I’m just so used to Republicans caving and letting me down, but I saw another glimmer of hope today. Trump’s not showing any signs of backing down. If the Democrats want to fix DACA, they must bend and accept the wall as well as end chain migration and the visa lottery system.
Pelosi isn’t interested.
Ever since he wrongly ended it in October, @realDonaldTrump has constantly said he supports #DACA. Despite the confusion of the last week, it is clear we must insist a clean #DREAMAct be enacted in January. https://t.co/DFkg9JuiVb pic.twitter.com/mErXaQOyTp

“In October, the President wrongly decided to terminate DACA. Since that time, the President has constantly said he supports DACA.
“The confusion of the last week has clouded the debate, but what is clear is that we must insist upon a clean DREAM Act, which is supported overwhelmingly by the American people, has bipartisan support in Congress and must be enacted in January.
“The bipartisan Senate proposal put forward by Senators Graham and Durbin recognizes the importance of protecting our DREAMers.”
All of that being said, President Trump has concluded that “DACA is probably dead.”
DACA is probably dead because the Democrats don’t really want it, they just want to talk and take desperately needed money away from our Military.

I, as President, want people coming into our Country who are going to help us become strong and great again, people coming in through a system based on MERIT. No more Lotteries! #AMERICA FIRST

It doesn’t look like he’s planning on caving anytime soon. That’s encouraging.
