There’s a whole lot going on in that headline. 🙂
So if you haven’t been keeping up with the Don Lemon hullabaloo, he basically accused Nikki Haley of being out of her prime last week, sending his co-stars into defensive-mode and pushing him to explain himself. His reply was that according to GOOGLE, women at age 51 aren’t in their prime.
People freaked.
Don Lemon went on vacation the next day. Reports say it was pre-planned, but who knows. He then wasn’t on air on Monday or Tuesday this week, finally returning this morning amidst tons of speculation that he’s basically facing his FINAL WARNING before CNN is dunzo with him. He also has to go to sensitivity training.
He didn’t address the incident on air, but offered this apology on Twitter.
I appreciate the opportunity to be back on @CNNThisMorning today. To my network, my colleagues and our incredible audience — I’m sorry. I’ve heard you, I’m learning from you, and I’m committed to doing better.

See you soon.
Megyn Kelly thinks Don Lemon’s gotten a pass for way too long:
"Don Lemon's re-education camp is a farce. It's a lie and we know it. And for them to continue tolerating it makes them part of the problem."@MegynKelly on CNN refusing to fire Don Lemon. pic.twitter.com/MMxPtk1g5j

But Don Lemon has an unlikely ally in Candace Owens on this particular issue. Candace is defending him, saying that everyone is overreacting and that what he said is factual, since biologically women are in their prime at age 20. BEHOLD:
Does she have a point? Well, maybe – if in fact some of the outrage she’s referencing was actually about Don Lemon’s specific comment. She has a point in that Poppy Harlow and Kaitlin Collins pushed back against him in the wrong way.
The problem though, is that Candace is not recognizing the true reason behind the outrage, which is the double standard. Had any conservative said any such thing about women in their prime, they’d be immediately canceled. Conservatives pointing this out, and keeping the double standard top of mind, is absolutely appropriate. Candace gets to that point in a roundabout way by suggesting conservatives would have loved it if Trump said Hillary Clinton wasn’t in her prime. But that’s not a good example. Trump wouldn’t have said that because he and Hillary are similarly-aged.
Everyone with a brain understood that Nikki Haley’s comment about Joe Biden not being in his prime was simply an overly polite way to say DUDE HAS FREAKING DEMENTIA and isn’t mentally fit to be president, let alone run for a 2nd term. Don Lemon or Whoopi Goldberg suggesting that Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime is wholly different, because people in their 50s aren’t generally regarded as having the kind of mental decline that is far more common in the elderly. But the bigger issue is that Don Lemon would have never said the “prime” comment about a man in his 50s. That’s what had people (mainly women) upset. And again, that’s a double standard that needs to be called out.
I agree with Candace Owens on TONS OF THINGS – probably like 80% of things, in fact (with a key exception being the use of shoulder pads). But when she goes into full condescension mode, as she does in the clip above, it’s a huge turn-off. Conservatives like me didn’t pearl-clutch or lose sleep over Don’s comments. But we do recognize that the leeway he gets, where others wouldn’t, is problematic. And Megyn Kelly was absolutely right about that.

All CNN hosts are well known for their stupid take on the news. Hence the low ratings and mass firings.
I am not going to defend Don Lemon, well, because I want to live, but if we don’t like conservatives being cancelled and are for open debate, do we really want Don Lemon or Whoopie cancelled, or can we show that their statements are incorrect? I say we demand they be allowed to stick around so we have people we can point at and laugh.
As for the observation that he appears to be a misogynist, isn’t that kind of a common attributes for people with his sexual orientation?
My issue with this whole thing is, that was NOT the context of the conversation that this comment was made. They weren’t talking about biological issues. They were talking political and societal issues. THAT is the context in which this comment was taken. He never ONCE mentioned child-bearing. Even if it wasn’t the context of the conversation, it still would have been inappropriate, but I don’t think people would have been as mad.
Also, Keep in mind, he is a self-described wokist. So for HIM to make those comments, after criticizing other not-so-bad comments from conservatives, he can just STEP THE F RIGHT OFF!
Though I don’t disagree with your point, Mock, my overall reaction to this story is, “Who cares?”
I mean, Lemon is only as relevant as people allow him to be, and stories like this just help elevate him a bit. In my mind, the only people impacted by his statement were his two co-hosts and the three people who still watch CNN. Let those half-dozen people lament this terrible issue all they want; I think the rest of us should just shrug and move on.
Because in the end, elevating anything that Lemon says in order to point out the now impossible to miss double standard that exists in the media isn’t going to do anything the help that double standard go away.
Obviously, that’s just my opinion; your mileage may vary.
I’m 42 and feel like I’m still in my prime….so there!!!!
I’m 41 and going to go buy a big rig so I can be in my optimus prime.
Conservative says something slightly awkward that can be deliberately misinterpreted => roasted.
Liberal says something blatantly meant to be misinterpreted to try to smear an opponent and accidentally smears one of the Left’s sacred cows => slap on the wrist.
Conservatives police their own, Liberals police their opposition. This is meant to enforce the idea that somehow the other side is worse in every way even though the baseline evidence doesn’t support it.
See Romney’s “Binders full of women” line, right? TOTALLY taken out of context. Everyone with 1/2 a brain understood that he was talking about having a source of educated and competent women to pull from for any given job. But the woke scolds took it as oppressing women, or some such nonsense.
