It seems streaming giant Netflix might be in for a bit of a hiney whooping in the coming months.
“We surveyed 1,000 Americans to gauge their streaming habits in 2022 and found that 1 in 4 are planning to leave Netflix this year,” Reviews.org reported. “Netflix has had a difficult 2022, losing nearly 1.2 million subscribers in the first two quarters of 2022 and recording subscriber loss for the first time in a decade.”
Reviews.org also noted the top reasons for leaving “were rising cost of subscription, missing titles on the platform, increasing costs of general expenses due to inflation and using other streaming services more often.”
I also think the general suckery of Netflix has something to do with it, too. It’s clear the platform prioritizes social agendas first, content second with their originals. If they can shove a non-binary character of color who’s missing a limb into a storyline, by golly, they’re going to do it.
Diversity in casting is great, BUT MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR THE STORY. It’s painfully obvious to viewers when a character is shoehorned into a show to check a box. Then when the show flops, the creators blame the critics and accuse them of being homophobic and/or racist. And don’t even get my started on the whole Netflix “Cuties” movie debacle and sexualizing prepubescent girls.
To combat their lackluster performance Netflix is going to lower prices.
The Daily Wire reported a “leaked memo from Netflix showed the company could unveil a ‘cheaper’ tier that would be available as early as next month, as low as $7.99 a month.”
I smell layoffs.
