Yesterday we all found out Don Lemon’s night show was getting axed and he is moving to a co-hosting gig in the mornings alongside Poppy Harlow and Caitlyn Collins. Most people thought that sounded an awful lot like a demotion, given that he was moving from solo artist to one member of a trio. But Don wants you to know that’s not the case.

I have no idea if he’s just blowing smoke or not. I mean, regardless, he’s decided to have a positive attitude about it, and so good on him, right?
I know that Daisy and I can sorta relate. We started our full time radio careers with an afternoon drive schedule – our show was on weekdays from 4-6pm. Because we weren’t radio people and didn’t know broadcasting and certainly weren’t interested in the politics of it all – the fact that afternoon drive is a super-coveted schedule wasn’t something that really mattered to us. We were just assigned to that block of time, and we did what we were supposed to do, and that was that. And we did that for a few years, getting home too late to have dinner with our families, and missing out on after school stuff, etc. When we found out the morning guy was retiring, we jumped at the chance to be moved to 9-11am and have some more normalcy in our home lives. It was what we wanted more than anything! But you guys – the number of people who pointed their fingers and mocked us for being demoted was too many to count. People took great delight in thinking we had been forced to move to mornings.
So I’m not gonna sit here and suggest that Don Lemon is protesting too much or that he’s just trying to make the best of a situation that he’s unhappy about. He might be perfectly delighted to be moving to a co-hosting job in the mornings. Maybe it’s a huge load-off. Who knows.
But I do know that I’ll continue to have the exact same amount of interest in his new show as I did his last.

Don Lemon lied every night (and now in the daytime). Why would anyone think he’d stop now?
