Every day it gets harder to distinguish between satire and reality. In today’s episode of “They can’t possibly be serious,” I bring you a Reuters headline and article about Brittney Griner (the American WNBA player who was arrested for and plead guilty to drug offenses as she entered Russia with vape cartridges containing cannabis oil):
Reuters reported that “U.S. basketball star Griner says her rights were not read to her when detained in Russia.”
Oh, honey, bless your heart. You thought you were going to be read your rights when you were arrested by authoritarian government officials in Russia? No, honey. No. You see, Miranda rights, which are derived from the 5th Amendment, are a uniquely AMERICAN privilege and part of the reason why America is considered the freest country in the world. If you are arrested in America, the police inform you,
“You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult with a lawyer before questioning and to have a lawyer present during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you free of charge prior to any questioning.”
Again, this is because America is the freest nation in the world and affords citizens– even suspected criminals– unprecedented freedoms and protections against authoritarianism and government abuse. Like allowing you to remain silent, be represented by someone who knows the system better than you, and then being afforded a fair trial rather than beating you into a confession, tossing you in a cage with no idea what’s going on, and then being sentenced for whatever crime the authoritarian government says you committed.
Griner is apparently just figuring out that Russia isn’t the United States of America and does not afford American rights and privileges to suspected criminals. In Russia, citizens have no real rights. The violent authoritarian dictator and his cronies have absolute power. Citizens are only afforded certain considerations when their authoritarian rulers decide it’s convenient to allow them in the moment, and they can be rescinded on a whim. Because they’re not rights. In Russia, there’s no such thing as having your rights read to you upon your arrest because there’s no such thing as “rights.” People are no more than government property.
Griner’s bizarrely uninformed statement speaks to the fundamental ignorance and misunderstanding that is apparently contributing to so many radical woke leftists pushing for communism, socialism, and other authoritarian forms of government. These people clearly don’t realize the immense and unique privileges and rights they enjoy in this country which would be stripped under the very forms of government they are trying to inflict on this nation. And Brittney Griner being annoyed that “her rights were not read to her when detained in Russia” is just an incredible example of this ignorance.

The ignorance of the average American is astounding. We can thank public education for that.
When arrested or accused of a crime, don’t talk to the police. Remember: Even a fish would not get caught if it kept its mouth shut.

A very good friend of mine who is a retired police lieutenant once told me to never talk to the police without a lawyer. The conversation was about carrying concealed before Alaska had a permit system. He also said that it is better to be judged by 12 than buried by 6.
Bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Maybe she’ll have a bit more appreciation for the USA now that she sees how bad the rest of the world actually is.
Another product of the American education system. I’m shocked.
I wonder how long it took those Russian jailers to stop laughing when she complained about not having her “rights” read to her and not having access to a lawyer. They’re probably still laughing. These American pin heads deserve what happens to them when they get caught bringing illegal drugs into countries where they’re outlawed.
I can’t stop laughing at this. Seriously. I was like, THERE IS NO WAY SHE REALLY SAID THAT! Now it all makes sense why these spoiled athletes and celebrities think America is so evil.
It’s also reported that Griner complained that she wasn’t provided access to a lawyer. Cry me a river. I really hope naive Americans will sit up and take note of the “civil rights” they have in the USA don’t exist in Russia.
One more time for the people in Rio Linda. American civil rights stop at the water’s edge. They do not exist in any other country, especially not in Russia.
I will say that if the silly really didn’t understand that, it explains a great deal about their views on Russia, China, and their play partners.
Her parents must be as embarrassed as they are worried.

Opps, forgot about the asterisks and the bolding.
You actually got them in, or close enough. That puts you ahead of me, I can’t figure the new system out.
By the bye, I agree with you 100%.
I wanted just the asterisks. I wonder if I put a slash first if they would act like reddit?
