July 5, 2022Tiara Mack, an elected state senator for Rhode Island, recently explained that “I have an Ivy League degree and am a state senator. Hate to break it to you. They can’t respect us in a system designed to oppress us.”
Wait, tell me again how you’re an oppressed Ivy League-educated state official? Because the fact that you’re Ivy League-educated and an elected state senator both speak to the fact that you have every opportunity available to you. It’s literally a testament to the freedom and equal opportunities afforded by this great nation. She could be holding herself up as an example of incredible possibilities, but she chose a victimhood mentality instead.
But let’s back up a little, because this whole conversation requires a little background. It all started when Libs of TikTok posted a video to Twitter of then-campaigning Tiara Mack twerking upside down for votes. Yes, you read that right. She filmed and posted a video of herself twerking upside down and telling people to vote for her. And hey, they did, because she’s a state senator now. It’s an impressive talent, to be sure, but it’s crass. Especially for an elected state official.
The post also revealed that she sponsored a bill to promote teaching kids “queer inclusive, pleasure-based sex ed.”
Predictably, there was quite a kerfuffle on Twitter about the video, so State Senator Mack responded to the outrage by stating that “twerking upside down really makes the conservative, unhinged internet accounts pop off on a Monday,” to which an account called “Say It Loud-Black and Proud” responded with disappointment in Mack’s crass behavior, stating, “I like when WE have a standard of decorum that we want OUR people to rise. To be UNCOMMON to be admired! This ain’t it.” Presumably, this account is speaking specifically as a black woman about maintaining a “standard of decorum” among black Americans, or as she states, “OUR people.”
And Tiara Mack’s response is where we circle back to the beginning of this article. She first explains that she has “an Ivy League Degree and [is] a state senator,” both of which are incredibly selective and privileged accomplishments made possible by the unprecedented freedoms and opportunities available to all Americans. Then she dismisses the idea of a standard of decorum because “They can’t respect us in a system designed to oppress us”– “They” being either white people or conservatives, but I’m not entirely sure which. Likely, she’s broadly and incorrectly stereotyping conservatives and white people and actually conflating the two, thereby entirely dismissing every single black and brown conservative American in this country. But racism is weirdly common from leftists these days.
There you have it. With an impressive lack of self-awareness, an Ivy League-educated state senator is using her voice and power as an example that the entire system is designed to oppress her.

Gross. Ivy League educated? She doesn’t speak like one. She’s disgusting, and obviously gross, crying poor me, look at me I’m a victim.
And…what does a fat gross looking person making sexual moves have to do with asking for voters?! Citizens electing POS like her is one of our country’s continued problems.

I like how she set the stage to label anyone who disagrees with her “racist”. If you challenge Mack in any way, you lose. She’s both privileged AND oppressed, all at the same time.
If Mack is so oppressed, how did she manage to be elected State Senator, (other than by low-information voters.)?As a black woman, I have nothing but the utmost contempt for Mack, her duplicitousness and refusal to accept responsibility for her actions by playing the race card. I’m sure that Harriet Tubman, Ida B. Wells, Coretta King and Rosa Parks would be appalled by Mack.
Sadly we have a class of people in this nation who have no interest other than tearing down the system. They have no idea how it works or why it works and have no real alternative solution once it’s destroyed but by God they are going to tear it down because someone told them it’s a bad.
