New Report Shows California Is Most Illiterate State, Which Dem Leadership Probably Prefers

A new report may give us some insight into why California is such a disaster, and should have everyone scared for the future of the state. According to the data, California now has the highest illiteracy rate in the country. To quote the City Journal,

“In fact, 23.1 percent of Californians over age 15 cannot read this sentence.”

I guess it does kind of make some sense, though. When things like pronouns, plastic straws, and progressivism are your priorities, then actual education gets pushed to the side. Which is fine for the politicians who prioritize things like pronouns, plastic straws, and progressivism, because dumb voters are easier to mislead. Dumb voters are easier to convince. Dumb voters probably aren’t going to recognize, much less understand, the implications of policies decisions. Dumb voters won’t identify hypocrisy and double standards. Dumb voters won’t connect the dots between terrible policies and failing communities. Dumb voters will believe you when you say that children, who are at almost zero risk of death from a certain illness, have to wear a mask in classrooms to protect them, but that the Mayor instituting that policy doesn’t have to because he held his breath, and neither do tens of thousands of others enjoying the big football game. Dumb voters will believe you when you say that you need to print and spend trillions of dollars on pet projects in order to improve the economy, because dumb voters can’t even read this sentence, much less understand basic economic principles like the relationship between government debt, government spending, the value of the dollar, and inflation.

At this point, I don’t know why California leadership would want to put any effort into improving the literacy of the state when it’s working out so well for them. They don’t want to make their voters any smarter or they might realize that voting for the same failing politicians and policies are the reason their state is failing. And that would seriously cramp their political elitist lifestyle. In fact, they’re steering into the skid. The L.A. teachers union leader claims that “there’s no such thing as learning loss.”

“It’s OK that our babies may not have learned all their times tables. They learned resilience.”

More like they learned compliance, and they definitely didn’t learn anything that would have benefitted them or their state in the long run.

Luckily for some children, some parents have realized that California has no interest in giving their children a quality education. According to the Los Angeles Times,

“California public school enrollment spirals, dropping by 110,000 students this year.”

In fact, California public school enrollment has been dropping for 5 years. Predictably, the last couple of years has a lot to do with the pandemic, as California was among the state that took the most illogical and unreasonable approach regarding school closures. While there are a number of factors which are probably contributing to the decline, including declining birth rate in the ultra liberal state, the mass exodus from failing democrat states like CA, and ongoing pandemic concerns, I do harbor some hope that at least some of the decline is due to parents waking up to the reality of their awful situation and choosing something better for their children.

Oh, and I’ll give you one guess who California edged out for their top status. Drum roll, please… New York. Yep, California’s literacy rate is 76.9%, while New York is marginally higher, with a rate of 77.9%. Shocker, I know.
