You Have To Read This Email From A Naturalized US Citizen About Nationalized Healthcare.

Every now and then, between the messages we get telling us that we’re Hitler or that I’m a whore for wearing shorts, we get wonderful messages like these:

Hello chicks!

I discovered your podcast a few months ago and love it. You keep me sane. I work in the arts so am constantly surrounded by liberals. For 11 years, this was in DC and the arrogance of the liberal folks I worked with was crazytown. I worked for a federal agency where in theory staff was not allowed to express their political opinions. This did not apply to anyone with a liberal opinion, however. Partisan politics crept into every meeting and every situation and it drove me bananas.

My husband and I moved to Idaho four years ago and while I still work in the arts and there are still liberals, they do seem to be a bit more rational and able to actually hear some counter opinions every once in a while. I think that’s because we live in the real world out here, unlike DC. But it’s still a challenge.

I’m also British, so I come from the land of socialism. I grew up with Nationalized Healthcare and to be honest, I naively thought that free healthcare was a wonderful thing UNTIL I moved to America and discovered what good healthcare actually looks like. The type of healthcare where you don’t get put on an 18 month waiting list to have a mole removed, or wait 6 months for an urgent CT scan, or have your grandmother be abandoned in a hospital hallway for days because there aren’t enough beds, I could go on… I became a citizen in 2014. I now have two kids, both of whom were born in a wonderful American hospital. I love this country.

Honestly, discovering your podcast was like a miracle – the clouds parting, the sun coming out, etc. etc. – because I finally found some awesome crazy women who think the same way that I do about many things. So thank you for that.

You mentioned the other day that if I wanted a signed book that I just needed to email you. So here I am. I would like a signed book please! I’d love to come and meet you, but Idaho is a tad far away. If you ever feel like heading this way (visiting Yellowstone National Park perhaps?) please stop by and say hello. We have a lovely guest house you can stay in.

You know what Georgina is? She’s an American. She’s an immigrant who came to this country, fell in love with it, and melted into the great American pot. I want many many many more immigrants like her, and like my parents (who came from Poland in 1969 and naturalized in 1975.) I don’t know many people who love America more than my parents.
