I’ve never liked Jennifer Lawrence. I’ve always thought her “I’m a cool girl who farts and eats pizza” schtick was forced and rather tacky. She’s also expressed some ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS political sentiments (remember that hurricane thing) … but I read this story, and UGH. I feel for her. This sounds like a literal nightmare.
Jennifer Lawrence shared some unsettling stories from her early years in the movie industry while being honored at Elle’s annual Women In Hollywood event.
The Oscar-winning actress, 27, revealed that she was told by one producer that she was ‘perfectly f***able’ while a female
executive forced her to stand naked alongside a number of much thinner girls in a bid to have her lost 15 lbs for a role.
Those two incidents both occurred when she was still just a teenager said Lawrence, who shot to fame and earned her first of four Academy Award nominations following her performance in the 2010 film ‘Winter’s Bone.’
She describes the line-up, and it sounds like the worst case of sorority hazing imaginable:
When I was much younger and starting out, I was told by producers of a film to lose 15 pounds in two weeks,’ Lawrence told the crowd at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills on Monday night.
‘Super easy.’
That aside drew laughter from the mostly female audience, but what Lawrence said next quickly silenced the room.
‘One girl before me had already been fired for not losing enough weight fast enough, and during this time a female producer had me do a nude lineup with about five women who were much, much thinner than me,’ said the
statuesque actress, who has been the face of Christian Dior for six years.
‘And we all stood side by side with only paste-ons covering our privates.’
Lawrence was then told how she could use this to her benefit by the unnamed female producer.
‘After that degrading and humiliating lineup, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet,’ said Lawrence, which stunned the room.
She then quickly added: ‘I can laugh now, it’s OK.’
For the record, I was in a sorority. We NEVER did anything like this. However… sororities and fraternities get in MAJOR trouble for hazing all the time. What they do doesn’t even TOUCH this story.
Meanwhile, full-grown adults are doing sh*t like this to TEENAGERS with no repercussions.
She continues…
‘I asked to speak to a producer about the unrealistic diet regime and he responded by telling me he didn’t know why everyone thought I was so fat, he thought I was perfectly”f***able,”” said Lawrence.
‘He asked me to star in a porno as the character, among many other things that are too inappropriate to repeat here in this dress.’
So why didn’t she stop it? Why didn’t she do something about it?
‘I couldn’t have gotten a producer or a director or a studio head fired,’ explained Lawrence, hitting upon a sad reality of the film industry.
‘I let myself be treated a certain way because I felt like I had to for my career. I was young and walking that fine line of sticking up for myself without being called difficult, which they did call me, but I believe the word they used was “nightmare.”‘
She then added: ‘I didn’t want to be a whistleblower. I didn’t want these embarrassing stories talked about in a magazine. I just wanted a career.’
Things began to change for the actress however when she landed parts in two major franchises – ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘X Men.’
That, combined with her Best Actress win at the age of 23 for her role in ‘Silver Linings Playbook,’ suddenly gave her enough clout to speak up and out for herself and others on set.
‘I worked out every day because Katniss is strong, but I would be damned if I was going to represent the ideal that someone who looks skeletal is a positive body image,’ said Lawrence of preparing to play the ‘Hunger Games’ heroine.
‘I was not going to have young girls skipping dinner because they wanted to look like Katniss.’
Woof. That’s heavy stuff.
Personally, I can’t judge her for this. I’m just horrified about that naked line-up….
And… is she wrong? Do you think a young teenaged nobody could have gotten a powerful producer fired? These Hollywood elites probably field complaints about their behavior ALL DAY LONG…. they’re just brushed aside.
You want to take it to court? They have MILLIONS OF DOLLARS for legal defense, and an entire industry covering for them. I doubt there was much a teenaged wannabe-actress from Kentucky could do.
I’m torn. This is horrific. Of course I understand she did it out of her own free will… but that doesn’t take away from how disgusting the adults who would do this to a young teenager are.
