This Guy Asked Us To Un-Ban Him From Our FB Page, And Then Things Just Got Weird.

I’d like to offer the following email exchange as a public service announcement to any and all people who have been banned from our Facebook page, and who are seeking to be un-banned.

Don’t do it like this guy, because OMG.

I don’t know about y’all, but I felt like that was really nice of me.   I’m a hugely forgiving person, and I believe in second chances .  But my response just made this dude want to double down.  BEHOLD:

Yeah.  So basically, he was saying, “Yeah – I called you a name but it was totes justifiable, and I’m going to fight you on this even though I’m trying to get back onto your page.”

So I responded, more firmly.

Again, I think I was being very polite about this, but he kept pushing:

Um….NO.

Except that apparently it WAS complicated for him, because he responded again:

But it wasn’t the end.  He responded again:

At that point, I decided to try one last-ditch attempt to explain the ground rules.

I didn’t hear back from him after that.  And a couple days passed, and then the weekend came, and I thought to myself, “Self – why am I tolerating this kind of crap?  I don’t owe this guy a damn thing.”

And so I preemptively banned him again, knowing that based on our conversation, no good was going to come of having him back on our page.

And then I got this:

He responded again:

Well, welcome to the club on that one, dude.

HOLY LACK OF SELF-AWARENESS.

Anyway, consider this a friendly PSA.

I know lots of people get all bent out of shape about Facebook pages banning people, and Twitter accounts banning people, but you should know that we have absolutely no issue with banning people who insult us on our own platforms.  I don’t want to see that crap on my timeline(s).  And there’s absolutely no reason I should.

Now, as I said, I’m very forgiving, and I’ve un-banned plenty of folks who’ve shown remorse for their comments and have asked to come back.  And quite likely, I’ll continue to be very forgiving.  But this guy?  No.  This guy didn’t get it.

And so concludes today’s lesson on how NOT to ask to be un-banned from our page. 🙂
