I left the room for a moment before Maximo Alvarez spoke, and when I returned, his face was on the screen without his name captioned. I couldn’t remember who he was, so I asked my husband, who without missing a beat, said, “It’s that guy from UP.”

Look – I know there are some folks out there who are describing that speech as powerful and passionate and great. I gotta be honest – I cringed the entire time. It was completely over the top. Like – there were parts that were so over the top that I laughed out loud at it. That’s not the mark of a powerful speech. People who weren’t even watching her last night heard her – that’s how loud and screamy it was. And this wasn’t just cringe because there was no live audience. It would have been just as cringe if there had been. Her words were great. Her delivery was a disaster. I’m just keeping it real, and your mileage may vary. But all I could think of the entire time was this:

Nikki Haley was a stark contrast.

I’m not sure why she gets such a bad rap from some conservatives. Daisy and I have always been fans of hers. And I love that she brought her confederate flag decision back into the spotlight – because given the landscape today, that context was really important and well-timed.

Tim Scott needs to run for president in 2024. Full stop.
