BREAKING: Supreme Court Hands Victory To Religious Schools By Striking Down State Ban On Taxpayer Funding

The Supreme Court delivered a victory for religious schools today. Again, Chief Justice John Roberts was the swing vote.

In the 5-4 ruling, authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, the court essentially backed a Montana tax-credit scholarship program that gave residents up to a $150 credit for donating to private scholarship organizations, helping students pay for their choice of private schools. The state’s revenue department made a rule banning those tax-credit scholarships from going to religious schools before the state’s supreme court later struck down the entire program.

Tuesday’s ruling is a victory for school choice proponents and some conservative religious groups who had challenged the provision in court.

This is also a victory for black people. Nearly all Americans agree that black lives matter, although we certainly don’t all support the radical Marxist Black Lives Matter group. Black people are frequently stuck in failing schools. More school choice will help black children get a quality education and give them a much better chance at a successful life.

Allowing state funding of religious schools was opposed by the left as a violation of the separation of church and state. The Constitution guarantees freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. Giving people the choice of a religious school in no way forces people to choose it or abide by any particular religion. Religious schools should not be discriminated against if all other types of schools are funded under school choice.

It seems as though Roberts revels in this role in being the swing vote. He was the swing vote in the deeply disappointing abortion decision made yesterday.

Roberts it not as much concerned as much about upholding the U.S. Constitution as he is in making sure the Court does not lean too much in one direction or the other. I’m sure he just loves being viewed as the level-headed swing vote who can see all sides of an issue and is not lockstep conservative or liberal.
