Gov. Cuomo Questioned On Economic Hardship: ‘Get Your Head Around the We Concept. It’s Not all About You”

Whoa! Governor Cuomo had his Nancy “Antoinette” Pelosi “let them eat cake” moment in a press conference today.

Cuomo demonstrated his callous disregard for all the suffering that is a byproduct of the economic shutdown. His exchange with a reporter is unreal.

He brushes aside financial suffering, emotional suffering, domestic violence, and suicide. All of it.

Reporter:  There are protestors outside right now honking their horns and raising signs. We did speak to a few of them before we came in and these are regular people who are not getting a paycheck. Some of them are not getting their unemployment check. And they are saying that they don’t have time to wait for all of this testing and they need to get back to work in order to feed their families.  Their savings is running out. They don’t have another week.  They’re not getting answers.  So, their point is, the cure can’t be worse than the illness itself.  What is your response to that?

Cuomo: The illness is death. What is worse than death?

Reporter:  What if somebody commits suicide because they can’t pay their bills?

Cuomo:  Yeah but the illness may be my death as opposed to your death. You said they said the cure is worse than the illness. The illness is death. How can the cure be worse than the illness if the illness is potential death?

Reporter: What if the economy is failing?

Cuomo: Worse than death?

Reporter: Equals death?

Cuomo: Not it doesn’t. It doesn’t equal death.  Economic hardship. Yes. Very bad. Not death. Emotional stress from being locked in a house. Very bad. Not death. Domestic violence on the increase. Very bad. Not death. And, not death of someone else.  See, that’s what we have to factor into this equation.   Yeah, it’s your life, do whatever you want.  But you’re now responsible for my life.  You have a responsibility to me. It’s not just about you.  You have a responsibility to me. Right. We started saying, it’s not about me, it’s about we.  Get your head around the we concept. It’s not all about you.  It’s about me too. It’s about we.

What in the actual hell? First of all, what is with the fear-mongering?

Coronavirus does not equal death.  It simply doesn’t.

If you are under the age of 60 and without underlying health conditions, there is a very, very tiny chance of death.  The overall death rate of this illness is starting to look to be around .1% to .6%.  That is far off earlier predictions of 3.5% or higher.

Second, I hate to inform Governor Cuomo of this, but domestic violence does, sadly, sometimes result in death.

Cuomo tries to guilt people who are concerned about housing and food for their families by saying it’s not all about them.  He makes it an either/or, black and white proposition.  He fails to appreciate that there is a way in which we can allow people back to work and take steps to keep the vulnerable protected.  Desiring to work and feed your families is not selfish.  It is survival.

Also, it sure is rich that Cuomo is brushing off economic hardship and even domestic violence as valid concerns.  Aren’t Democrats like Cuomo always defending illegal immigration and sanctuary cities on the basis that some are fleeing domestic violence or economic suffering?  That’s strange.  Why?  It’s not worse than death. It’s fine.

Cuomo has balls.  As the exchange went on, he actually said, “I understand the economic hardship. We all feel it.”.

We all feel it? ALL? I highly doubt Cuomo feels any economic impact from the shutdown.  He is still getting his paycheck and has no worries about his job.

The exchange came to a close when the reporter asked him about people’s right to work.

Reporter: “Is there a fundamental right to work if the government can’t get me the money when I need it”?

Cuomo: You want to go to work? Go take the job as an essential worker. Do it tomorrow.”

Yes, thank you Governor Cuomo for telling people what jobs they are allowed to have.

There are not enough “essential worker” jobs available to employ all who are out of work anyway.

Also, it’s completely unnecessary.  Wouldn’t it be much simpler to just let people get back to work in the fields they have chosen and for which they are educated and skilled?
